Yeh it's actually a big breeze block stable and the heater is well away / high enough away from anything wood / straw etc and only put in low heat, as you say need to be careful, and still keep an eye on it through the camera i have in there as well
She has just gone in there and has been...
Thanks for the reply :)
4 years of having ducks and dealt with plenty of stuff but never one doing this. She isn't friendly enough to come in the house but their house is enclosed inside a stable which has a section with a patio heater for when any of them are not feeling great so i will pop...
She is a runner maybe not 100% but this is her usually
She will be around 2 years old now, not been getting many eggs from any of them recently, the Khaki Campbells have been laying a few still but not noticed any from the runners, she spends most of the time stood rather than sitting and...
Anyone know why my runner has been sat like this most of the time for the last day or so? stays all tucked up like that when she is walking too but she isn't venturing very far at the moment
Only other time i have ever seen them do this is when it is has been raining really hard and they stand...
Yeh ideally we want it to all be natural, of course i will step in if i need to but want to leave it to her as much as possible
The duckling seems to be plenty happy enough, chirping and running around a little, so it seems ok at the moment
My duck finally hatched a duckling yesterday after much waiting and failed attempts over the previous days / weeks, she is still sat on 3 more eggs, but now has a day old duckling in there with her, i have a camera up in there and have been keeping a close eye on them and the duckling hasn't...
I managed to get another look at them just now, hard to see from the videos but there is movement inside a couple of them, but the confusing thing is that tomorrow is 28 days, and there doesn't look to be 'enough' inside there for it to be ready to hatch?
There are some that are darker and you...
Ok, i left my runners to their own devices with the eggs, and we are on day 27 now of the eggs being sat on and i am starting to worry that things might not be going to plan and wonder about the next steps....
It started with one of them sitting, but about 10 days ago one of the others decided...
OK, we decided that whilst having some new ducklings in the flock would be good, we didn't want to be getting an incubator and all of the set up needed and doing things that way, not least because we wouldn't have had the time to be turning eggs and keeping on top of things, so we decided that...
OK, so i have been giving some serious thought now to hatching some of the eggs that the ducks are producing, and i have looked at many sites online which all give you plenty of information on what to do and what you need etc, but i wondered if there were any real world stories from other owners...
Is there a 'season' for mating, or is it a constant thing?
I added some runners to the flock, and the single drake is jumping on top of all of the ducks, all of the time, and they don't want it, plus some have old injuries that i don't want to be affected, so i wondered if this would be a...
I am finding such varied answers online, so i thought i would ask actual owners...
How long will a duck be in season? i have a young male runner who is really terrorising the others and wondered how long he will be doing it
I know its natural, but he is really being aggressive with some of...
I did catch him today and have a look but couldnt see anything, obviously likely to be further down if there was something blocking so i know that doesnt rule it out, he does sound wheezy
They have been out of the main garden for a while now due to bad weather, so their water is a kids pool...
OK, hopefully this link will work to a short video on Youtube. Its filmed from inside the house, but you arent missing anything on the volume, there is no noise coming from him at all, possibly an 'exhale' at the most
OK, so we have a duck, bit of a mixed breed thing, we originally thought we bought all females, but have always had suspicions that this one turned out to be male, anyway, recently 'he' has started to look like he is trying to call out but is making no sound, like if you looked out the window...
