It happened inside the coop how the blood played out. Fully enclosed, wooden frame metal siding. Funnily enough a skunk got into thier run a couple weeks ago. Other than giving me a heart attack, he didn't get into the coop

So yeah. Bad neck battle wound, very badly bleeding comb. Rough looking hens = bad rooster.

well, exciting conclusion!!! It's been a long summer. Rocky has some scarring but shes fine. Ozzy, not so much. found out what happened. So, rocky was in the birdie hospital for a week. Healed nice, let her back out with the flock. The next day I heard screaming and ran over. That bastard of a...

No possums up here. Weasels and coons are really the only thing capable of getting over a fence, through 2 doors and up a ramp. I had owls take hens before, that was different too and we've covered the top. No owls since then thank goodness

Onto Rockys status! She's eating and drinking and beeping at us. Starting to enjoy being a spoiled house chicken. The wound is fully scabbed over now. My other hens are having troubles though. She was the dominant hen. Hopefully next week she's not too sore to go out and beat them all up again lol

Yeah, I lost 3 hens to an owl 2 winters ago. He waltzed right into the coop, pulled them out.... not fun at all!

Ozzy has no injuries. I'm suspecting whatever it was was young. It could have been the owl coming back, but that's more doubtful. Too many bunnies to eat this time of year plus the main run has bird mesh over the top. He hasn't been back since I placed it up. Plus it happened on a night that was...

From the blood splatter marks whatever it was grabbed her and pulled her to the floor. There was a definite scuffle. HUGE scuffle from the marks. I'm assuming Ozzy dropped on its back and scared it away. Or beat it and scared it away. It couldn't have been long or she would have been a goner...

Since this is a build thread, here's the finished for now product. First, the run I can close them into as needed. The old coop used to be buried in the middle there. The outside food and water. It's summer so I get to be lazy! The roosting bars. I already need to scoop poop. But I'm being a...

Then yesterday we finished the inside. So I finally am using some stuff we had to buy... 3 rolls of R11 insulation and 4 cheap sheets of melamine. I painted the floor with leftover exterior paint, it'll get another coating later. Yes, the insulation in the ceiling is laying there. It's the...
