Chick's and their 1st dust bath

They do have grit, idk why they preferred the sand. I’ll try the dirt to see how they do with that.

Chick's and their 1st dust bath

My chicks are about 3 weeks old now and I gave them sand but they don’t bathe in it, they only seem to eat it (as I’ve noticed their poo is very sandy). Should I just try a different medium (dirt, ash, etc) or keep them with the sand?

    PVC Gable Vent Problems?

I had that intent too. I am planning on a gable roof, planned on leaving the eves open, but I figured that it would be a good idea to put ventilation high up at the peak with a gable vent, or I could get fancy with a ridge vent, but I'd have concerns about relying on that with the snow during...

Opening nesting boxes for multiple breeds

I currently have 6 chicks currently: 4 Orpingtons and 2 Barred Rocks. From what I've seen online the Barred Rocks typically start laying around 16-20 weeks old, but the Orpingtons tend to lay around 24 weeks. I read that you aren't supposed to open the nesting boxes in the coop too early while...

    New Kid from New England

Hey Guys, New to raising chickens, but I've had an interest and seen value in it for quite some time. My fiancee and I rent so I assumed that having chickens was not possible, but we were talking to our landlords and they were very open to the idea, so we jumped on the opportunity. I was...
