Okay thank you so much, yeah I read about the feathers and was worried I might be seeing what they were describing. I was hoping I just wasn't understanding. But this is the confirmation we needed.
I think we are going to try a no crow collar when the time comes as a last ditch effort and if...
Worried our she is a he. Our county does not allow roosters. Was supposed to be all hens but heard Barnevelder's are hard to sex. Here are a few pictures, reading up on it I keep going back and forth. I don't want to get rid of him/her unless it's a roo 110%. Here are a few pictures, if you are...
I now think it's feather eaters and I believe it's more than one. Possibly all of them. I'm seeing signs of feathers pulled now from most of the flock. I've tried vicks vapor rub, I just tried the no pick solution so not sure if that will work. I also put on an apron on my sussex who looks...
They are still on southern states meat maker feed but I also offer them crushed oyster shell. I have Southern States layer feed but not using that yet till they finish the other stuff.
Thank you!
Yeah after reading more and more posts I'm thinking it probably isn't molt either now. Yeah I thought the same thing when researching, exactly where the rooster ones are.
Haha yeah the pizza crust isn't a regular thing, just was the only compost item and didn't want to make a trip...
Neighbor down the lane has two unsecured pitbulls. Thankfully everyone survived but they were shaken up. This was back in November, the dogs have since killed neighborhood goats and a miniature pony. While there is no hard evidence other than proximity so animal control couldn't do anything...
Hi All,
New chicken guy here, my girls are about 6 months and a few weeks after they all finally started laying I noticed my speckled sussex had a patch of feathers missing on her back. About 4 days later I noticed the same on my australorp. It now looks like maybe they are pin feathers coming...
I actually hadn't thought about that. I will need to consider it, that might be the way to go. I figured it had to all be together in case the hens wanted to lay or needed a break or more shade/food/water. At least food and water I could setup in the run too but wasn't sure about the laying part...
Thanks!
I live in Maryland, so our winters are usually pretty tame compared to just a few hours north, but we do have them and will hit freezing for sure.
Sorry to hear about the website warning. I think it's safe, maybe they were compromised previously. But the price is $295 plus it would...
Yes, the "fertilization" happens before the laying, not after, so they are free to use the roll away boxes. Probably a good idea since you want to keep the eggs clean and collect them quickly.
Soil seems to be all over the map, I've planted trees and leveled off different sections of the yard. Depending on where I dug some areas were silty and sandy, then the next shovel would dig up a huge section of clay. I'd say more clay areas than sand though.
Hi All!
New to chickens and just ordered our first flock. While we wait for them to hatch I'm eagerly reading up and educating myself on as much as I can. I wanted to run a potential plan by you all and get some feedback.
I have about an acre of land in MD and think a tractor coop might be...
