Hi, I've just noticed that my bantam welsummer hen is acting a little strange. She isn't going for any food or mealworms and her comb is very faded. I noticed a little blood on her feet and neck but after wiping her down I couldn't find any clear sign of an actual wound. The other chickens seem...
They all grew up to be healthy productive chickens! I still use this product to this day and pretty much swear by it now. I have some chicks on it right now, actually. And they're in the house and our house gets quite cold at night. I think it better imitates the natural warmth of the mother...
My day-old chicks seem to constantly be fighting each other. Pecking at each other's faces and legs. Is this because there are only two of them? Not sure what to do...
It's really difficult to get to the water with how the incubator is designed. I ended up making a makeshift "dry-off" chamber out of a small plastic bin, a spare brooder heatplate, and a heating pad set to Low underneath it all. Seems to be working ok. The chicks are finally fluffing up...
I have three now! But the humidity is so high I can't seen into the incubator at all anymore. I have no way of getting the water out without opening it and I'm concerned that the chicks are never going to be able to properly dry out because of all the moisture.
I think the next time I can do a...
It's Day 23 and those lazy babies are finally trying to come out.
I have one that is actively trying to "unzip", while the other was doing well and then seemed to quit for no reason. Made a big open hole and I can see the beak, but now no movement and absolutely no signs of breathing?
It's already been 20 days and no signs of hatching. I put them in lockdown on day 16 after reading a guide that bantam breeds can hatch earlier. But still nothing. Should I call the hatch a failure at this point?
Well at this point I've made so many newbie mistakes I will be shocked if even one of my eggs hatch.
1.) I didn't calibrate my incubator after I took it out of the box & started using it.
2.) I forgot to wash my hands when candling the eggs around day 10.
3.) I made the mistake of moving...
So a few days ago was my 10-day point with my eggs. I have 6 in the incubator and 4 under a broody hen. The ones under the broody hen looked great when I candled them. Pretty much completely dark on all sides. The ones in the incubator were only half dark half light, split right down the center...
Hi, yeah. I've thought about other guard alternatives like geese. I don't particularly like geese since they seem to be pretty aggressive towards people from what I've seen. They also seem to honk all the time for no reason, no matter what. And if that's the case, I don't think my hens would...
It's SO frustrating. All the local government has been struggling to maintain social distancing and other safety measures because the state governor is going over their heads and ruining everything. The mayor in the town neighboring mine had recently tried to close the beach to prevent...
In Georgia pretty much every business is trying to say it's essential and GA's like "ok yeah, fine." Like car dealerships and guns-&-ammo shops are apparently essential. Everything in this state pretty much seems to be carrying on as usual.
Nope. They're barely treating it like a serious situation at all. In my area the fancy downtown area is closed for a while to slow down tourism. And most restaurants are only doing delivery or take-out. But that's about it. Most other business is going about as usual.
