    Older Hens with young hens

I have 5 black australorps that are 4 & 5 years old. I also have 4 buff Orpingtons that are 1 1/2 years old. For the past 3 weeks I have been getting 1 egg a week. Could the lack of the older birds laying eggs cause the younger ones to not lay?

    New eight week chicks

Thank you for your information. I just changed the food to grower crumbles and my older australorps love it. I have not integrated the 8 week chicks yet, but plan to this week.

Where should broody hen and new foster chicks live?

Hi, I'm a new member to BYC, I recently had the same thing happen. One of my chickens went broody in one of the nest boxes that are up high in the coop. She has been laying on about 6 eggs for about 3 days now. We marked them so we would know if any other eggs somehow were laid by the other...

Hi, I have been raising 10 - 12 chickens for about 3 years. I recently acquired a new young rooster in the last year. My chickens range from 3 years down to just 1 year. I have been getting 6 - 7 eggs daily and I enjoy the girls and my rooster very much. Just recently one of the chickens...
