That's a good egg!
Got the first one from one of my 5 month old girlies today, it was a tiny, doll-size 50% scale model kind of egg.....shown below next to one from her mum.
Is this normal?
See the very red bits on this 6 week old BR's head? I have four chicks, and this one has this redness around her head, the others don't. But sometimes it isn't red like that, just normal pink. Seems to get red when she's excited, foodtime especially.
What do you think?
Thanks!
Ah, ok thanks. Yup, I can put Olive out whenever is best, was wondering if I should wait a while...so I'll give it a couple of weeks or so. All the groups can see each other as the baby en is within the big pen and I feed them all at the same time in the same little area and they all on great...
Thanks for the reply....it's mid summer here now and hot as a hot thing...so no prob with chicks getting cold. Olive, the broody, gets pretty mad at the BRs next door, so I thought maybe a good idea to get her out of the picture before the babies go out with the bigger birds ...?
Hi, so, sooner or later I have to integrate three groups of birds together...wondering what you all think of the plan....
Group One:
Big Birds: in big pen, 4 months old, look like this (their rep. today is Honeysuckle)
Here they are as a gang:
Group Two:
5 week olds with broody hen, two...
Ok, here's pics: BRs;
One of 2 and a half wk old Silver Campines;
Light Sussexes with Mum, sorry about the headless chicken pic;
4 month olds out in the big run;
Thanks all! Ok, so this morning they were pretty ravenous and pounced on their breakfast for about 10 seconds, then got bored and wandered off. Maybe it's just a totally different eating regime? The ones with their mum next door methodically work through all the food (however much!) 'til it's...
yes, food in there all the time, I'll try taking it away for a few hours before dinnertime. They ate like hungry hounds tonight though, so I'm hoping everything's ok!
Yep, I think that might be it. They are in a hen house divvied into two; Hen and Campine/Light Sussex babies on the other side. I had to change the barrier between the two from chicken wire to hardboard though as the hen went bonkers at mealtimes, trying to peck at the Brs through the wire. She...
Hi, wonder if anyone can tell me if I should be worried or not? I got four BR babies last week at 3 weeks old. I also have a group of two week old babies raised by a hen; three Silver Campines and two Light Sussex. Anyway, at meal time the Campine/Sussex group demolish whatever's put in front of...
Great, thanks alot. I might put the Barred Rocks in with the adult flock first then, as they are already three times the size of the Silver Campine and Light Sussex babies. Will also make sure there are panic rooms for them!
