I have poop trays on top of my nest boxes like that. The hens poop on the tray if they choose to roost on the edge of it. They also have a roost bar above the poop trays. I bought some dog crate plastic trays to use there and it really makes cleanup easy.
The design would really work great...
Hi! I'm sorry to hear about your hens' feather loss. I do occasionally have to use BluKote on my hens where they s have been pecked or have new feathers coming in. This usually helps deter further pecking and allows the feathers to get a little bigger and typically the hen is able to regrow...
Thank you both for the advice!
Yes, the cockerel and two pullets are about 10-12 weeks. Do you think they'd do alright on an all-flock pellet instead of chick crumble?
Their crops both felt much less watery yesterday evening when I pulled them off the roost for a little massage. The rooster...
Hello again, chicken friends!
I moved three ~10 week old Black Copper Marans from the grow out cage into the big bird coop on Monday (7/3). Two of the 3 seemed to have distended crops in the afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday. Their crops felt very full and like a loose water balloon. On...
Interesting. My rooster doesn't seem bothered by his crop either but he has awful stinky, dark, watery diarrhea. I am trying vinegar in the water and "Rooster Booster" probiotics.
I also have some white mold on my lentil sprouts. I forgot to rise them yesterday I suppose and today they look like this 😬
I washed the mold of with water. Is it still safe to give these to the chickens & quail? Could I rinse them with something to kill the mold?
Thank you!
I'll up their protein to 20% and see if that helps. I have had them on 18% Nutrena Hearty Hen.
They are relatively peaceful unless arguing over treats when I bring them, but I'll watch them roost tonight as well. They have access to 2 acres during the day but roost in a coop at...
Thanks for the suggestions. I have been applying clotrimazole for 3 days so far. Their combs look less dry.
I was thinking of trying a spray for the feather loss areas on their necks. Have y'all used any of these items on areas of feather loss before?
Banixx (2.5% Hydronium Ion solution)...
You're welcome! I think they may help with your current problem too. I actually bought them to keep the other hens from picking their fresh feathers after I removed the rooster. It helps keep the new growth out of sight so they aren't tempted to eat the really bloody new growth. Mine wore...
I had a really bad case of feather picking and rooster rubbing in my flock last year. I applied BluKote liberally every night but it didn't seem to stop the pecking, especially when new feathers were trying to grow in. I ended up purchasing chicken saddles that covered most of their back and...
