    Incubation attempt 2

I read somewhere that you really don't want your temperature going above 100° while incubating..because temps above 104° can kill developing chick embryos. Want to try and keep it at an even 99.5°

    What breed is my rooster?

I got this rooster last year from a guy that was selling chickens on Craigslist. I bought a bunch of hens and he gave me the rooster for free! I never asked what breed he is..just thought he was beautiful. But, now I'm curious because his feathering is growing in and he's just a handsome...

Pretty sure my young flock has cocci :'(

Two days ago I noticed my 2.5 month old pullets looked disheveled and lethargic and puffy. It came on quick. Started treating them yesterday with liquid Corid 2 tsp. per gallon of water. This morning one was dead. Their coop is part of an old barn stall..and I have another flock of older hens...

Broody hens adopting day old chicks

It would be really sweet if they did except them..but yeah, I don't want to cause any chaos either. I was just wondering if these were fertilized eggs and they were all sitting on them and if chicks were to hatch..how they would work it out naturally? Does that ever happen within flocks 4 or 5...

Broody hens adopting day old chicks

Today I let my ten (9wk) old pullets out with the bigger girls for the first time..and a broody hen literally took to them like they were her own..when i locked the coop up tonight she was calling them to get under her wings..and a couple succeeded. LoL! I have 4-6 broody hens right now..and...

So sorry to hear about that... you did the right thing...hard to do, but better than letting them suffer. Like cmchickens said, hopefully the hatchery will let you either get a new chick or a refund. I don't know what hatcheries do if it's one chick you would like replaced..do they mail a...

Awww, poor little one...I hope she gets better for you. Maybe her equilibrium is off? Maybe my girl had wryneck too..or just the stress of shipment? Mine didn't make it overnight. I just made her as comfortable as possible, to see if she would pull through in time...i was holding her, and...

Awww..I hope your sussex makes it. I ordered 8 Plymouth Rocks, 8 White Rocks, and 8 Rhode Island Reds. The two little ones that didn't make the trip were White Rocks. This is our second time raising chickens...last time we raised 12 sexlinks (back in 2010.) I'm feeling like a new paranoid...
