Well, chickens are so much fun, right? I got 7 eggs today. 2 from under the roost, one was crushed so it didn't count. 1 in a nest box and 1 on each side of a big front door. Found 2 more a couple of hours later, I think one was on the floor in front of the roost and one in a nestbox. Just now...
I removed the golf balls and they are soaking in what is now ice, oh well. I got the wooden eggs (a lovely brown egg colour) and placed them in the nest boxes, we'll see, so far, eggs are still being laid in corners of the coop, except the barred rocks of course!
Thanks, I have golf balls in them. I also put a real egg (a sacrifice) in one of the boxes. I saw a hen go into a nest box and start pecking at the wall etc (lol - it was probably the only hen to get on one of the swings too). Strangely, when they were being tractored around our property, they...
This is helpful! I am new to chickens and I have Black Noirans, Olive eggers and Azure blues - these all started laying at 22 weeks (well, some of them - I have 3 of each (plus an Azure blue rooster) - they may not all have started yet). The barred rocks are still slowly getting their combs etc...
We do already, technically, have a peacock coop - we turned down the peacock when we bought our house. I do realize, though, that this is a slippery slope!
Thank you!
Well, I got a variety of breeds as I just could not decide! I ordered 9 pullets, Azure, Black copper Marans, Lavender Orpington. Olive Eggers - and what with chicken math I will be getting a couple of Americaunas (sp?) in another month or so.
I do have big plans - chickens as...
I found a local person on Kijiji and she has been very responsive - of course it could be a scam, but I'm fairly sure she's legit. I'm getting pullets as we were not prepared to get chicks!
Hi, just signed up with BYC. I live in Chatham-Kent in Southwestern Ontario. We just moved here to our dream acre in the country where hubby is close to his family and I get to have chickens! I am a city girl and new to chickens, but have been researching like crazy. I have my first chickens...
Well, I couldn't decide so got 3 lavender orpingtons, 2 azure, 2 black copper Maran, 2 olive eggers. I ordered them from a local breeder as pullets as we're not quite prepared for chicks!
Thank you, yes, I'm aware of the need for a balanced diet with sufficient protein, minerals, amino acids etc. I will be including animal protein too. I do have a lot to learn.
Hi!
I'm excited to be here, I've wanted to raise chickens for years. So last year we bought a 1 acre agricultural property in Chatham-Kent, Ontario. It came with a chicken coop, a peacock coop and a cow pasture.
In May we're getting 9 pullets. I had my hubby make a chicken tractor as the coops...
