I've had 2 over the years that plucked their chest. Both were Black Australorps,not related to each other. One was ten or twelve years ago and the other one is sitting on seven eggs right now.
I had two hens go broody last Friday, I let my granddaughter give them each 8 eggs. Of course the new coop I built last summer specifically for broody hens has 40 2 week old chicks in it. Dang chicken math anyway.
I leave mine open but it's also fortnox. It's a 12' x 12' covered run wrapped in hardware cloth with a 24" deep concrete footing, inside a 50' x 100' x 6'high fence with 4 hot wires around that. I also have a pair of labs that patrol outside the perimeter.
If I had a rooster attacking me the last thing I would do is bend over. Lowering your face would be dangerous if you asked me. I've been spurred several times, I was spurred through my jeans when I was a kid and still have the scars. Suggesting to someone (possibly a child ) that they bend over...
