Hi everyone, I know the topic of introducing hens to an established flock is discussed often, but I’m after some advice for my specific situation.
I have just lost my first hen and am devastated. I only had 2, so now I have 1 who is all alone and it is breaking my heart. I’d like to introduce 2...
3 year old isa brown has not been her healthiest the past 6ish months. Have had ongoing issues seemingly getting better then worse then better then worse. About a month or so ago she had really bad sour crop (and I think associated vent gleet) which I treated her for and she seemed completely...
Layer pellets which are given unlimited. They also free range majority of the time so they’re eating lots of grass (which is short and mowed - not long/fibrous) and little bugs. I also have live mealworms I feed often as treats
I’ve done a LOT of researching on sour crop over the past month due to having a pretty extreme case on one of my hens. After some weeks, I’ve finally got her all better and back to her normal self, but now my other girl has started showing sour crop symptoms - just today she bent down to pick up...
My chicken has these weird growths either side of her beak. I left them alone initially but now they’re growing bigger and I worry it’s impacting her ability to peck, groom and eat. Girl is looking like a vampire.
Should I trim/cut the side bits back? And how should I do this? This girl is...
Thank you so, so much, I really appreciate this.
I can’t quite open the Amazon link you sent. My husband may have some tubing in his shed that I could use. Are there any specifications around the type/size/length of tube required?
Also, would you recommend I isolate her inside in a pen for...
Her crop each morning has been empty but interestingly this morning I felt it and it feels full and like a water balloon. Does this mean the sour crop is back? 😞 or her digestive system is not functioning? She has definitely lost weight. Poor girl is so thin and is barely eating.
I only have...
Thank you! Can you please let me know more detail about the epsom salt flush? Do I still need to offer her food and clean drinking water for the 3 days? And could I syringe feed the epsom salt water rather than using a tubing kit?
My 2.5 year old ISA brown has been unwell for what seems like months. A few weeks ago she had sour crop which I treated and seems to have resolved, but now I think she may have vent gleet. I just want to get opinions on what it could be. Have posted photos of her poop from today and will list...
Thanks for your reply! I think I was a little confused and thinking I was missing something, that maybe there was a medication to be taken orally for humans, as I could only come across the skin creams. Thank you again 😊
I have a hen with sour crop and I’ve read online that over the counter thrush medications (Monistat etc) can be administered. I’m confused as these medications are marketed as vaginal creams, applied to human skin. Can I just confirm that the recommendation is for the hen to ingest this?
Hello, I have a hen who seems be going through the exact same thing, everything you have described sounds like my girl. Are you able to please provide any updates on how she is doing, anything you’ve tried that has worked?
I have a 2.5yo ISA brown who I suspect has an infection. She has laid a couple of lash eggs in the past few weeks, along with some soft shell/broken eggs. And then other days no eggs at all (which is not like her at all, she’s a 1-egg-per-day lady and always has been).
She’s otherwise her usual...
