My main concern is you can see BONE. When I see the skull exposes like that, I get really nervous. We stitch it up and it heals, but it can't be a good thing to have the skull exposed like that.
Don't think so. The Chickens steer clear of the Ducks and Geese. The Geese and Muscovy get along great.
When I first saw the wound I thought an Eagle or Owl had tried to take her. That's the only time I've seen a wound like that.
Have one Female Muscovy in our flock of other Ducks, two Geese, and our Chickens. They've always gotten along. Haven't seen any fights.
But the Duck keeps showing up with big open head wounds that we keep patching up. Just when she heals and goes out again she shows up again with another gaping...
I think 3rocksandme meant "Winged" Chicken Eaters at night. Usually we are VERY good about locking up everyone at night (myself included). But I guess with it getting darker sooner now, it just got away from us. If the Geese hadn't come up to the Door and started Tapping, the Owl would have had...
A week ago I woke up to the sound of a THUD on my upstairs deck. didn't think much of it, thought a branch fell from a tree. It's happened before. Then Saturday Morning heard dozens of Crows making lots of noise in the Trees. Went outside and there they have a HUGE Owl surrounded on top of a...

Well... To quote Johnny Carson, "I Did Not Know That".
So.
What then is THE BEST MEAT Chicken to raise at home that grows well, lives a life, and tastes good, all without taking months to grow, or...
My Wife agrees it was the Heat that killed them. Our property has many Old Growth Oaks, Maple, Cherry. We live in Mt. Airy Maryland. It's called that because in most spots there's ALWAYS a breeze. Just the way the area is situated always makes it cooler. I work in DC and have come home often to...
I was told the Jumbo Rocks just didn't do well for them and others in the area. Most people just stuck with plain Cornish Roasters and that was what worked well.
It's all a moot point though. My Wife is set on NEVER raising the Jumbo Rocks again. And I'm partial to that as well. They grew at...
Oh, and the largest was 15 lbs the smallest 10 lbs. All the others were between that size. We fed them a diet of Meat Maker from our local Feed Coop that they make there. We also supplimented them with greens from our Garden along with occational Treats like Melons and such that we couldn't eat...
These were the biggest Chickens I have ever seen. I'm also convinced it was the Heat since they were used to the shade, and it was in the 90's yesterday. (Figures it's raining like crazy today and it's in the 70's). I think these were 9 Weeks old. Like I said, I've never seen any Chicken grow...
Just curious why the DIDN'T process them? What's the good / bad of doing it? BTW... I could not do any of these at home, for what they charge and as fast and clean as they are, I wouldn't want to even try.
Hi. Just started to do the Meat Chickens this year. We first went with some straight Cornish Rocks in March. We had picked up 6 at the Local Tractor Supply on sale. We did this because we had already placed an order for 25 Jumbo Cornish Rocks with McMurray to arrive in Late May. We didn't have...
What did I miss? Did everything happen prior to 9:30-10AM? I live in Maryland and took the drive out there thinking I'd see a SEA of Chicken's and Poultry. When I got there, there were only 5 or 6 people left and most were packing up. I saw one person with a nice assortment of Chicks, and a...
