Are Silkies fine dining for Hawks???

I have 6 Easter Egger hens and had three silkie roosters. My chickens are allowed to free range. Last summer I lost the first silkie to a red-tailed hawk. Then in winter, another silkie rooster was taken. Today the last of the boys (pretty sure it was a hawk because I thought I saw one...

They may say flock, but they're more like family! :)

Family bath time on a sunny November afternoon. Violet (easter egger) and Lily (Americauna) make room for one more.

A Roo or Two?-First time chicken owner needs your thoughts!!!

So poor Fern's (Fernando) throat was slit by a hawk. He had developed the redding of the waddles and I think he died defending the girls. Poor Clover was heartbroken so I decided to get her another rooster...I ended up getting two because they were free to a good home. A week later HER...

    Favorite thing YOUR chickens do!

My favorite thing is how sweet and lovable they were. I had no idea when I bought chickens in May for the first time that they would become pets not livestock. I picked them out at a day old so I guess we're bonded. My chickens run out to greet me every morning and want to be patted and...

So much to learn about chickens. This is my first flock...I love these girls-they come out to get patted EVERY morning and night. So sweet. What are you thoughts on the sex of my six pack based on color? I'd appreciate the advice. PS-I've already determined reading this forum that this are...

A Roo or Two?-First time chicken owner needs your thoughts!!!

I have recently purchased two splash silkies from a girl who thought that the two chickens were female. I've done a lot of online research and realize that sexing silkies is difficult. For awhile I've suspected that the "gal" in the top photo might be a roo. This morning the 3 month older...
