Can my ducks handle -4 degrees F ?? I’m worried!

Thank you. We ended up using a seedling mat under some hay and hemp shavings and I feel much better knowing it’s in there 🙏🏼 tonight is our first night in the negatives 🥶 hopefully they are cozy!

Can my ducks handle -4 degrees F ?? I’m worried!

Hello! I live in northern Colorado and have three gorgeous lady ducks whom we got last spring, this is their first winter. I just saw the temp is supposed to get very low next weekend and I’m worried about our girls. They sleep in a Nestera duck house (only ventilation is up top - no major...

Would my hens be happier with a drake?

Hello all! We currently have three hens (two SAs and one Saxony). We love them to bits and plan on adding two more quackers in the spring, likely Magpies. I originally planned on getting two more hens but I’m starting to wonder if the group would be happier with one drake? I must say, now that...

Treating Niacin deficiency - question on movement

thank you @Miss Lydia I am finding some peace. Willow is doing well. Strawberry and Waffles will still charge at her on occasion but it seems fairly harmless and Willow always goes right back to what she was doing seemingly unbothered. Our daughter is making sure she gets extra tlc.

I hope so too. I think they will we made some good progress today. I’m still having Willow sleep in a clear plastic tub with them overnight so they don’t have full contact. Separating Gemma and Willow really breaks my heart.

Treating Niacin deficiency - question on movement

@Miss Lydia It’s been quite the day. After talking to multiple vets we were on the verge of deciding to euthanize her. She was at our local rural vets office for most of the day and when we finally went in at closing time to talk to the vet (they squeezed us in after CSU only offered euthanisia...

Treating Niacin deficiency - question on movement

Our vet won’t see her but they recommended Colorado State University vet clinic. Im overwhelmed after reading about slipped tendons. I have no idea how to go about healing her if that is the case. I can’t bear the thought of her suffering and would rather say goodbye than prolong her life if...

Treating Niacin deficiency - question on movement

Can a regular vet see her? I’m going to read about slipped tendons I didn’t realize that was a possibility. Poor baby 😢

Treating Niacin deficiency - question on movement

No I don’t see her straighten her legs at all. She’ll kick around in the bath and work her legs pretty hard but she doesn’t get very far. When she was tiny she did the same thing and kind of moved backwards… at the time we thought it was cute but now it seems like it was indicative of this...

Treating Niacin deficiency - question on movement

I’m just not sure what to think. We’re about two weeks in on the b complex. Initially when I realized she wasn’t walking I could stand her up and she would stay on her feet, often for several minutes and sometimes even preen. Now she will only “stand” on her shins. Her knees are always bent even...

Saxony ducklings - Different colours at birth

@Papaye I’m treating her for niacin deficiency. There’s a sticky thread on that if you’re interested in learned about it. It mostly involves giving liquid b vitamins, poultry cell and water therapy.

Here’s Willow and Gemma. You can see how she lays, to me it appears to be pretty normal. I’m about to attempt the vet wrap. She really does not like being handled so I’m not sure how it’s going to go but I figure if it gives her a better chance of recovering we may as well try it. She does seem...
