I made a spiced cider yesterday and was wondering if I can give the pulp to my girls? It hasthe pulp of 5lbs of apples, 4 mandarin oranges, cinnamon, ground clove and ground nutmeg. The apple seeds were removed before simmering (I know they can't have those) but I was curious about the oranges...
My girls are very vocal. They don't really "cluck" it's more of a low squaking sound. They get really loud when they lay and egg though. It scared me the first time I heard it.
I love my BSL hens! I also like the variation in their coloring. I have 6 total and none of them have the same coloring. A couple have a lot of rust colored feathers and others have hardly any. I even have one that has a black face and comb.(she's my runt). They are 21 weeks old and only 2 have...
Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I found my first egg right after my initial post, but none since then. I think it may have been a fluke. It was a tiny egg too. It was an interesting experience. My largest hen was making this God awful squaking noise, I thought there was something in the...
Thanks. I tried to tell the hubby it was too small, but he didn't listen. I'm working on a more open design now. I'll have 2 or 3- 4ft sections for roosting. Now I'm just waiting for more eggs to come.
My girls are 19 weeks old. I just went out to check on them and found my first egg. Right now they are in a small temporary coop. It's 6'x2'. There are 2 12"x12" nesting boxes on each end with a 4'- 1x2 in between for them to roost.
Every night I check my 6 BSL hens, and every night they are piled on top of each other in the nesting boxes. Why wont they sleep on the roosting bar? They couldn't possibly be cold, I live in NC. I'm worried it might cause a problem when they start laying.
I'm new to raising chickens so I'll have tons of questions. I currently have 6 Black Sex Link hens (aka Black Stars) they are almost 20 weeks old and I think they may start laying soon.
