will brooding in the summer kill the eggs?

I have two silkies brooding right now (day 8) and we're having a hot couple of days, 35C/95F today and 38C/100F tomorrow. It's supposed to rain tomorrow evening and do a quick cool off back to 27C/80F for the rest of the week. Will the eggs be alright in the heat? The girls both have water in...

pullet or roo? help me sex my frizzles!

UPDATE: 1 & 2 finally revealed themselves when my two broodies came out for a few minutes to eat/drink today and they both ran up and started dancing for them :lau they've since not been shy about their crowing either so the mystery is solved! Now to find them new homes haha

pullet or roo? help me sex my frizzles!

It definitely sounded like one (although it wasn't the strongest like I've heard from other roos in the past) and I was right next to the coop when it happened. I might have to leave it another day to really make sure I heard correctly. The blue back in this pic is from a roo of the same age...

pullet or roo? help me sex my frizzles!

Of course, just after I ship off what I thought were all my boys yesterday I hear a crow coming from the chicken coop this morning 🙃 of course none of them want to own up whilst I'm out there with them the cheeky things, so hopefully you lovely people can help shed some light on the culprit(s)...

Rooster breeding with 10 week olds?

Thanks for the advice I'll have to try and figure out a new configuration to keep them seperated. I usually have them all out free ranging in our backyard as we haven't been able to make them their own dedicated run yet.

Rooster breeding with 10 week olds?

I have a 6 month old silkie rooster who this morning I caught breeding with one of my 10 week old frizzles. Poor thing was screaming its head off I thought something was killing it! He's been around them since they hatched and has always been very friendly and paid them no attention up until...

Thank you! Just one dose and I'm already noticing improvement. Will keep it up for another day or so to be on the safe side :)

4 day old chicks with eyes stuck shut?

my lil silkie babies have either one or both eyes stuck shut, but are otherwise pretty lively. None of them seem to be weak and all of them are eating and drinking plenty. I'm able to open the eyes manually, but after they've been under mama hen for a bit they seem to be getting stuck again. I...

Day 19 with Broody Hen and now mites!!

I went out to check again because I thought it was odd that there weren't many on her and i sfitted through the bedding and it's teeming with them. I really want to move her and the eggs to clean it out but I'm scared she'll freak out and refuse to sit with it being so close to hatch.

Day 19 with Broody Hen and now mites!!

At least, I think they're mites. They were a lot smaller than pics I've been looking at on the web. Some of them are white but then there's red ones from feeding on the blood etc. Only saw one or two on her (and I checked her all over, no louse/mite eggs but a lot of flaky skin from where she's...

    RentACoop chick feeder

I haven't used these before but I've seen plenty of people use PVC pipe as an alternative, so it runs down like a chute. Like this and this . I plan on installing one of these when I build a larger coop to cut back on wastage myself.

    thin eggshells with calcium deposits

Just wanted to say thank you as this has helped her immensely! I'm alternating between the milk curds and the oyster shell every couple of days and her eggs are back up to where they need to be, which is good because her sister has decided it's time for more babies so she's going to be stressed...

    thin eggshells with calcium deposits

They have Vella Poultry Layer Pellets permantently inside their run, but the also free range through my property throughout the day. I've been providing shell grit in a seperate container in the run so they can pick at it as needed, but I'm going to try another brand this week and see if that...
