So I left school today and my temp was perfect - 100 and humidity was 70% (day one of lockdown).
Happened to stop back five minutes....temp was 104!!!
It was only five hours...
am I going to lose them all??
I am FREAKING OUT!
Thanks,
Robb
Hi.
I am in Long Island and the Bobwhite used to be native birds. I am working with our wildlife conservation center and the goal is to repopulate. This is my 6th year and so far, so good. We had a bad hatch last year but otherwise all has been positive. I have the red light and have not had...
I want to hatch the eggs in the carton.
Thanks for the advice. I am going to try 1/2 of my eggs in the carton. I drilled large air holes in the bottom of the carton - so hopefully that'll help things. I will keep you all posted.
I candled all of the eggs today; I will post pictures later...
So, I ordered quail egg cartons b/c I want to try hatching my Bobwhite quail this way. HOwever the egg cartons that arrived are plastic.
Can I use plastic egg cartons?
Please - any and all advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Robb
Thank you.
I ordered them. I am going to hatch 1/2 in an egg carton and 1/2 without. I am a teacher and we are hatching Bobwhite quail. We are working with our local environmental agency to help repopulate into the wild.
Hoping things go well. 16 days until hatch!
Hi!
I have done a lot of reading and would like to try having my Bobwhites hatch in an egg carton. My eggs came in Styrofoam...not sure this is the carton I should put them in at day 20 (lock down). I have them in an automatic egg turner now but from the research I have done, it seems they...
Well, I woke up this morning and was hoping to see a bunch of chicks in my incubator. Unfortunately there were none. Things aren't looking good. Today is day 25. I am going to give them another day or two. But my gut is telling me, no more chicks will come this hatch. I don't hear any...
Thanks TwoCrows. Last year I had 52 eggs...48 hatched within 24 hours of each other. It has been colder here on Long Island..wondering if that has something to do with it.
FINGERS CROSSED!!
I will take some pictures.
I have seven great little chicks. No piping on any of the other eggs . Is there a chance that others may hatch? Today is day 24. We have 7 classroom housing quails...I was hoping to at least have two quails per room.
Hoping for the best...send positive vibes...
Hello (again).
THought I would give an update...I have five perfect little chicks and two more on the way. #2 did make it and is thriving...I think he must have exhausted himself hatching and that's why he looked so bad right after hatch.
I am hoping to see a lot more hatch today.
Thanks...
#2 is out...not sure it will make it...was a rough hatch. It struggled for a long time. A bit of red blood was by its belly when it finally pushed out. It is resting ... not a lot of movement like the other one. I am hoping it is just exhausted and will be okay. Time will tell.
Okay 2...
