    Clicking when breathing.

I'm not sure it was her who laid an egg but one of the two whose eggs I can't identify did. However, she's still not right. Her breathing is making her tail bob slightly as I said, so I checked her abdomen between her legs but just beyond the rib cage. It's quite full and it is pulsating too...

Hen cannot stand or pull legs under herself >24hrs

I'm glad things are getting better. Hopefully someone will answer the question about the medication. Unfortunately I can't. One difference between the US and UK is that you can buy medicine at farm stores whereas we can't get anything such as antibiotics unless from a vet. Whenever I go to the...

Thanks Eggcessive. No mucus, no head shaking, just elevated breathing rates. Shallow breaths but enough to make the tail dip a little as she does so. I wondered about air sac damage but I don't feel her being inflated. She is very densely feathered so it's not easy to see if any skin is...

Yes, if I'd have looked at the bio, I would have seen! 😂 Doh!

How is she today? I don't know which country you're in but judging by the weather you describe and when you post, you could be UK. If so, try getting some Poultry Power drops. You can get it on Amazon and it's very good stuff. If she's not getting enough to eat, it gives energy and vitamins...

    Clicking when breathing.

She is no longer wheezy or clicking but she is still breathing quite rapidly. It can fluctuate between about 40 to 50 breaths a minute. Yesterday, she did slow down a bit to about 35 at one point. She's moving about ok. She laid an egg yesterday. She's eating and drinking normally. So maybe...

    Clicking when breathing.

Thanks. That's an excellent article which I've bookmarked. Her crop is absolutely empty this morning and she was first out. She went straight to food. Her breathing is more wheezy than noisy and her taste of breathing has slowed down a bit. I've now got the VetRx which I will use on her beak...

Thanks for the reply. The crop was flat - I struggled to even find it because I too thought that might have happened. She is much the same today. Her breathing rate is 45 to 50 breaths per minute, so significantly more then the usual 30 to 35. However she's preening and socialising fairly...

Hen cannot stand or pull legs under herself >24hrs

I'm glad Elvira is making progress. Chickens can tolerate being wet for a while but it's better if they can dry out as it allows proper regulation of their temperature. If she's not getting enough food due to mobility or bullying issues, then really make sure you are able to feed her...

Hen cannot stand or pull legs under herself >24hrs

Poor little thing. I had a hen who couldn't stand up. I found that giving her tuna in spring water seemed to give her whatever she was lacking and she started to be able to stand after a few days. She did recover and lived back with the flock for another 3 months. Unfortunately she started...

    Clicking when breathing.

I picked up one of my girls today because I noticed she was a bit slower than usual and I thought it might be her feet (which get muck trapped in the flaps of skin between her toes). She started panting and a clicking sound was coming from her body (not her mouth). She did say one point shake...

Thin shelled eggs and other oddities

She passed. Gently. Breathing was clear, no gurgling. She died in my arms. I'm so glad I was with her. She had such a horrible life before we got her. She seemed to enjoy life with us, dust bathing, scratching around and dominating the others. You can see her in my first photo, she's the second...

    Sick Hen

Yes, Tums help. I give about half a Tum at a time, usually after the warm bath. Have you done a digital inspection? It's not essential but someone's I've been able to feel the egg and other times pull out a soft shelled egg that had not been able to be passed.

Thin shelled eggs and other oddities

Alas, things have not improved. I have now got 4 hens out of 8 laying thin shelled eggs. I did a few days of feeding them mash with 3/4 of a Tum for each been (fed separately) which did improve things but then quickly tailed off. Today I have one hen who is standing with her eyes shut and her...
