Broody Hen close to hatching… help

So cute. I’m thinking of the heat late. It gets pretty warm in our coop in the daytime though but stays cool at night.

Broody Hen close to hatching… help

So the boxes are a few feet off the ground. There’s a good 3-4 inches worth of hay as the flooring. But I’m still afraid it’s too far up. I was thinking I could set up a crate on the floor and move her like a day or two after hatching so they can walk in and out of the crate in the coop.

Broody Hen close to hatching… help

Hey guys! I’m proud to announce I have TWO broody hens. And boy are they in it for the long haul! 😂 I have two issues (maybe) and need your advice. 1. They are both in laying boxes that are higher off the ground. Should I move them to a crate in the coop on the ground until after hatching...

    Losing babies to huddling/trampling?!

Ok. Hopefully this is the last of it. I’ll kick my cats out at night just to make sure they aren’t playing around in there and scaring them.

    Losing babies to huddling/trampling?!

Actually my two cats stay in the garage but they leave them alone. We’ve raised chickens around them the past two years so they are pretty chill. But it is possible that they got super spooked. @Ridgerunner I believe my low for the next few days is 70 but it’ll be a little warmer in the garage...

    Losing babies to huddling/trampling?!

That would make sense. But they aren’t even in a corner in this pin. I’m hoping moving them to a larger one helps. They all survived the night. Should I put the heat lamp back on them? Or keep it off? It’s supposed to get in the 100’s this weekend. 🥵

    Losing babies to huddling/trampling?!

I know there has been an issue before but I can’t figure out why these babes are huddling like they are. Ages are between 2-3 weeks old. Temp is between 85-90 in our insulated garage. Area may have been to small before but I’ve since moved them all to a larger area. I lost 2 fairly bigger chicks...

Did I get HAD by the local TSC?!

If you have any photos of the same age that would be great! I’ve honestly seen it go both ways with the way these babies are taking shape. I know breeding can be a bit messy with the hatchery folks. Let see them @casportpony 🥰🥰

I hope you're right. I wouldn't be sad if we did get one roo out of the bunch but 3 is a bit much lol

Did I get HAD by the local TSC?!

Well I had SUCKER written on my forehead when I went in for JUST A WATERER the other day 🤪 The salmon faverolles stole.my.heart!!!! They were SUPPOSED to be pullets. But I’m beginning to think otherwise on these babies. They are about 1.5 weeks old. And some of their feathers are getting pretty...
