Oh good to know! It looks so different from the chick photos I've found on hatchery websites. But I guess they don't have the most consistent genetics, especially with all these hatchery hybrids.
Got some chicks from rural king today, and I'm questioning what this one could be. It was in the bin with midnight majesty marans, and the RR employee said it's production blue (but there was a bin labeled as production blue that looked much different). I think it's a week or 2 old, and I...
#4 💜 - 4 months exactly today
Still thinking cockerel? He's the absolutely the dumbest chicken I've ever seen. Does not notice when the rest of the chickens have moved on, or just doesn't care? Just hangs out completely by himself in the open grass, basically daring a hawk to pick him off...
I'm going to guess roo on the Brahma. It's a very small combed breed, so that much comb at this age suggests cockerel. This was my bantam light Brahma pullet at 5 weeks
Is it too early to sex silkies at this age? The white is a week older than the rest, but they're all about 3.5 months old.
1 - White - oldest, I think pullet? Very neat hairdo, I don't see any wattles but this one is bearded I think?
2 - Partridge/buff - youngest at 14 weeks. Most confident...
For comparison, this is the WCB roo nearly 3 weeks ago, so at 9 weeks old. I don't have more recent pics because he was injured by the other chickens, and looks like crap at the moment. He still doesn't have any red comb though
Update: 12 weeks old
The white crested blue is def a roo, but now I'm having some panic about the silver laced. She's getting a few pointy looking saddle feathers, but only on one side.... 🤔 Started to get some comb and wattles, but not a lot of wattles compared to the WCB roo. What do we think...
