Hi. Sorry only just seen your message, and that's because I was looking for some answers. Until recently all has been well. Heidi (indoor girl) had her fourth implant 3 weeks ago and is now moulting, has a lot of new feathers coming. She's fine but obviously doesn't want so many cuddles at the...
I use the "if it isn't good enough for me or my children, it isn't good enough for my chicks". You wouldn't leave a baby or toddler near a naked flame. I have used a hot water bottle - not too hot, wrapped in an old towel or blanket so they can get warmth from it. It's a shame there isn't a...
My Heidi has been out for around 8 days. She's had to have an implant as she was laying shell less eggs. I tried to put her back yesterday with her 3 sisters but they all attacked her and made her comb bleed. She's now back indoors with me. I thought they would be ok with her as they have been...
So, 7.30 am today Sweety crossed over the rainbow. I am in pieces, but she made the decision in the end. Please enjoy every minute you have with your girls, they are so precious.
Update
Sweety wasn't eating so yesterday I took some of her own food in and she started eating straightaway. My update call last night said she was still eating & I could bring her home today and medicate at home. I was told how to use a syringe so she can swallow her smaller meds. I brought...
I've just called the vet as they hadn't updated yet, and they said she is settled (I assume they mean she's sleeping as now is when she's usually 'tucked up'). Fingers crossed.
Hi. I'm in England and been on furlough since Christmas Eve, and twice before that. I lost three of my girls consequetively in August/September and now my last/fourth one is currently in hospital due to water retention. I don't know how I would have coped without her. I had mid-morning coffee...
When I asked the vet about this - having looked at an online video, he did say if I had experience I could do it, but not on my own, it would take two people. I'm happy to let them keep her for a day or two, as long as there's hope she'll come home ok. I feel guilty as it is without having her...
Unfortunately, due to covid, I can't go into the vets - not even for the loo. They come and collect from the car park, then phone to talk to you on the mobile. If I wasn't so frightened of hurting her, I'd try when she recovers enough so if I need to I could. We had extremely cold weather 10...
Thank you. As it's clear fluid the vet is hoping it's early enough for her to get better. She's far from out of the woods yet. This morning he said she was reacting well - I'm just waiting for an update. He said he'd let me know later. No news is good news, hopefully. I don't think I can...
Update
I have taken Sweety to the vets, she isn't eating and has actually vomited a couple of times, bringing up clear water.
The vet said she is retaining water. He has drained some of it; it is clear. He has started her on antibiotics and kept her in overnight. He's hoping she will be well...
Hi. I have a single chicken, coming up to 4 years old. I had four girls until last September when I lost three simultaneously from different things (first egg bound; second resperatory - she heavy breathed ever since she first came; and third retained water). The day before yesterday before she...
