    UK Member Please Say HI

Hi @Stepop80 and @rebrascora, it's been a few years since I've been on BYC, but two days ago I bought two chocolate runner ducks approx 3 weeks old so I thought I better restart my research. I'm based in Sacriston. I've only ever bought fully feathered/adult ducks in the past so this is new to...

Khaki Campbell Duck, Durham England UK

Hi, I recently acquired two female khaki campbells to join my flock of 3 ducks. Unfortunately, one of the new ducks is not getting along with one of my older ducks and is upsetting the calm within the garden. The other ducks have had no problems integrating and get along well together. I'm...

    New ducks gang war

Hi everyone, could really do with some tips to help resolve a conflict between my ducks. I have 3 campbells (2 white and 1 khaki) roughly about 1 year old who have been introduced to the family at different stages. I have never had a problem introducing a new duck to the group and after 10...

    Flubenvet

Have you tried searching for a product called verm-x? It has the same ingredients at flubenvet but tends to be cheaper. I have just had a quick look on amazon.com (I'm in the UK so normally go to .co.uk site) and they sell it on there. I would also check ebay as it may be cheaper.

    Bumblefoot query

Sigh. I managed to catch an early case of bumblefoot in one of my ducks at the early stages and managed to cure it with Epsom salt soaks and iodine. I was convinced it was 99% cured and was pretty pleased with the results as the thought of performing "surgery" wasn't appealing and out vet is...

    Help! Missing eggs

Hi thomassio, I am from the UK too (up north), I would consider magpies as your egg thief. I've seen magpies attack other bird's nests and take the eggs, I guess a duck's coop/house would be much easier as they would just hop in through the door, grab and run. Evil birds.

Bad news if you live in Michigan!

What can they do to stop people from having small farms on their land? Sorry, I am from England UK and we don't have laws like that so I'm confused. Could they take people's animals away from them? Enforce a fine payment? Criminal punishment? It seems like a silly rule, I can't see the point at all!

    Gardening with ducks??

I was really quite surprised how easy it was to train my ducks to be my gardening helpers. They now just need to see me with a gardening trowel or fork and they will run around my feet and get in the way. Anything I dig up, their little beaks are in the hole looking for bugs and worms. They free...

    Ducks in the garden!!!

My silly ducks go quackers at the sight of a spade, garden fork or trowel. That means I will be digging in the soil and they will get worms. They get under my feet and become such a nuisance trying to get into holes before I've even lifted the soil. They think if I have buried flower bulbs then...

    Sleepy duck constantly lying down

I (Matt) am writing on behalf of Marie. My queen duck. It's sad news I have to report. Waddles the head of the flock as it were didn't make it. She never awoke from the anaesthetic. She was diagnosed as having peritonitis. I guess all in all passing in her sleep at this stage was the best. Still...

    Sleepy duck constantly lying down

My poor little duck is with the vet right now, she is going to be given anaesthetic so they can do an X-ray. We are hoping it is just her being egg bound and all of our home treatments haven't worked. Tried warm baths and she already gets crushed oyster shell. I've ordered some liquid calcium...

    Sleepy duck constantly lying down

Thanks for the super fast reply Amiga. I will consider taking her to the vet, however the only vet we can find that will even consider looking at ducks admitted to me last time that he had never treat a duck before (this was for a respiratory infection giving this same duck a lump on the side of...

    Sleepy duck constantly lying down

Hi everyone, I have used the advanced search here on BYC to see what other answers have been given previously before I posted this, but I cannot find anything definite. Quick background information: I have 3 Campbells, two white are approx 1 year old and the khaki is newer and younger, guessing...

    Is this normal? (with video)

My ducks tend to do the wing twitching when they are warm. Even when it is cold outside, if they have been chasing each other around the garden or been energetically splashing in the pond, they will twitch their wings. I wasn't sure if ducks sweated and assumed this was their cooling off...
