I don’t care for the solar as in the winter time the sun is so short and if it is very cloudy. The solar won’t charge the batteries very efficiently. I like the batteries as I replace them just once a year.
The door goes up and down. It has a safety feature that if there is a chicken in the opening as soon as it feels the obstruction it stops and goes back up. I have tried this with my hand and no damage or pain too my hand.
I have 3 of the chicken run doors. They have worked flawlessly for 4 years. Change the batteries once a year. I usually do that on New Year’s Day. I like them because I can change the time for when to open or close. Or leave them to open at daylight and close at dusk .
I drew my own plans. I have been building houses and such since I was in my 20’s. The house the wife and I live in now. I built 15 years ago, way bigger than we need now since the kids have moved out but oh well.
Yes all 4 sides of each coop has ventilation. The one on the left has a total of 12 feet of ventilation, and the one on the right has 16 feet of ventilation.
