    Which antibiotic to buy

Thanks! Lots to digest. I agree with not treating if not necessary. Thanks for the line to the fishmox!

    Which antibiotic to buy

So, I am running out of my stock of antibiotics I purchased before the OTC ban went into affect. I am looking at Jedd's now just to have something on hand when/if my birds get sick. Jedd's offers many antibiotics/antibiotic combos on sight. I want to have something effective, but I don't want...

    Corid protocol

I just finished 5 days of Corid treatment @ 2 tsp per gal of water. I am now going into a week of rest (alternating daily plain water/poultry cell water). @azygous said in a different post, "The protocol is five days on Corid, one week rest and then five more days on Corid." My question is...

Foul odor.. black poop..light brown insects on body small black specs around vent

Are these two issues related? Need pictures of the "brown specs", her poop and her vent area. Do the specs move? As for the eggs...is the one you cracked open the small odd shaped one in the carton? How long has the hen been laying? The material looks like normal egg whites. Is the shell...

Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

She has been getting calcium for 3 days now b/c I found a broken softshell inside her. She has pushed that out. I will continue for the next 4 days. I also have her on my coveted amoxicillin. Her yellow urates are clearing up. I have both the 0.5 mg/ml and 1.5 mg/ml. She doesn't seem to be...

Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

1st girl definitely has reproductive issues. Found some lash material (about the size of an almond) in her poop this morning. Still has yellow urates. So I think I will keep the protocol of antibiotic up for her for another 3-4 days. I know there is no "fix" for reproductive issues and that...

Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

So, I think I figured out what is happening with the 2nd girl. I woke up this morning and the crate she is in is full of feathers. So a summer molt for this girl, which is a relief.

Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

Thank you. I went the canned cat food route this evening. Neither of them were thrilled with it. I put them outside in their temp enclosure again tonight to be with the flock. They seemed to pick at the different food choices they had. I threw them a few hard cooked eggs - part to them...

Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

Normally, I would agree with you, but the poop itself wasn't green - it was brown. The liquid that accompanied the poop was green. They both have mushy food in the cage. They are choosing only to eat the egg/oatmeal/watermelon. She did eat a lot of watermelon yesterday, so that gives a...

Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

Fecal float test was negative. She has a friend sitting with her outside in a makeshift habitat. This friends seems to not be handling the heat so well. Will bring them in when the sun hits the side of the house they are in.

Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

Another bit of drama to add to this story. I came in last night and found bright green poop in the cage where this chicken was being held. It was only the fluid around the poop that was bright (and I mean fluorescent) green. I asked my husband where that came from. He said she pooped it out...

    Bumblefoot treatment

If you are asking what you can use to clean the wound besides vetricyn you can get a gal bottle of chlorhexidine at tractor supply that mixes 2 tbsp to 1 gal water (check to be sure of my measurements). You can then put that in a spray bottle and use it instead of the vetricyn.

Modifications to help a [newly] one-eyed hen with feeding/watering?

Definitely not an expert, but as I read your post about your sweet girl, my only thought was "are the feeders at ground level or are the up at a height that would make it easier for her to simply move her head forward to partake of the food"? Just a simply observation that may not amount to any...
