Our Experience Treating Wry Neck / Torticollis In An Adult Hen

Thank you for your kind words! For this particular situation I was too afraid to post much about her condition because I knew so many people would just assume Marek's. I'm afraid if I was convinced it was Marek's we would've resigned defeat too soon. I did find lots of good advice on vitamin...

Thank you! We hope she does too! She wants it just as bad as we do so we have that going for us.

Our Experience Treating Wry Neck / Torticollis In An Adult Hen

Our little Buttercup, a 2-Year Old Serama, developed wry neck around the beginning of August. It has been an incredible struggle and I’ve spent a lot of time on this forum and in books trying to help her. Reading about the experience of others has helped me navigate her care and may have saved...

    Pecking Order Problem Esculating

I will try to get some photos up. The run is huge and was pretty open until recently. We have strategically placed 5 gallon buckets to break up line of sight and for hiding. It is working a little better than wide open. We would also like to make hay bale mazes but are worried about bugs/mites.

    Pecking Order Problem Esculating

It sounds like Lottie and Buttercup went to the same sorority--passing on the same hazing rituals that they had to go through! I think we will be integrating Specky. While typing this it started to storm pretty bad, so we went out to get the girls and Specky to bring them in. Miss Specky...

    Pecking Order Problem Esculating

I cannot figure out what is going on with my girls and would love to hear some ideas. I spend a lot of time with my chickens and I tried to be as short as possible but it still reads like a soap opera. Hang with me. The clique of girls in question are: Frida, Buttercup, Maple, and Betty. The...

Day 5 Sick Rooster - Dark/Cool Comb, Lethargic, Not Crowing, Barely Eating/Drinking

Update: His woman came out to take a "dust" bath with him by kicking around in the fresh hemp. He is low energy but is trying to kick around with her so that's a good sign. he just seems so weak.

Day 5 Sick Rooster - Dark/Cool Comb, Lethargic, Not Crowing, Barely Eating/Drinking

We have a sick boy and have no idea what more we can do for him. I have a bad feeling he might have a worsening heart condition or something. Any insight or advice is appreciated! 1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Serama...

Trying Cod Liver Oil For Soft Shelled Eggs?

She might be. I know several of them are right now--feathers are everywhere! That might be an avenue to investigate---thank you!

Trying Cod Liver Oil For Soft Shelled Eggs?

Oh I forgot to add something that might be important-- We medicated the whole flock with Corid for 5 full days after we had a Coccidiosis scare. None of them had ever been medicated before. It was on the 5th or 6th day that Betty laid her normal egg before they were soft shelled again. Should...

Trying Cod Liver Oil For Soft Shelled Eggs?

My Little Betty (1 Year Old Serama Bantam) has been laying soft shelled eggs all summer long. She laid normal eggs prior to that. About a month ago I did manage to get a normal egg out of her, but I can't pinpoint what she or I may have done differently. I've been working overtime trying to...

New behavior-not sure what it is but it’s cute

I just meant we had to stop 2 other hens from being broody, Speckles and Nuggie. For speckles, we blocked off her favorite nest box. For Nuggie, we gently sprayed her with lukewarm water. Just a couple of squirts on her chest. Both solutions worked immediately and they were unphased so I’m glad.

New behavior-not sure what it is but it’s cute

I sure hope it's not catching! We've already had to pump the brakes on 2 hens already this spring. Unfortunately, we aren't going to let her hatch out any right now. Just can't take the chance on getting a rooster when we've finally got the flock mellowed out for the most part. I took her...
