Thanks :(
She was slowly getting worse over about 2 hours, and began to cry (tears dripping down her face) about 30 mins before she stopped breathing... Breaks my heart to have witnessed that. I can only hope it was less painful for her than it appeared to us.
I think you may be right. We gave her fresh clean water the night before but she always mucks it up at night. Sounds possible she dug out the toxin from the soil?
Will ANY charcoal work, as in, no specific brands to avoid? And how much do we add?
So you guys think she died because she started laying?
So strange. She had 1 egg every morning without fail, even to the morning she died (and she even laid the egg meant for tomorrow) so what do you think could have caused an infection if all her eggs came out?
We had a ~6 month old Swedish Black (possible cayuga mix, she was pretty green) and a very large duck.
Up until last week, we thought she was a he because oh her green feathers and large size. Then she began to lay eggs and surprise!
She's always had a lot of energy and the day before she died...
I will try to feed her again. I have some eggs in the fridge, should I give her some raw yolk? Should it be cooked? Is there any other way I can encourage her to try to eat something?
I'll also look for a smaller dropper, but I am not sure how to feed her properly and don't want to "drown" her...
Thank you! I ordered just that, our local store didn't have any in stock nor the "poultry drench" stuff. They advised me to make my own and I mixed some salt in warm water with a bit of molasses. I hope that's OK.
Tried giving it to my chick but she won't drink. I dipped her beak in and she...
Thank you for the advice. I will do just that.
Is there any risk to the chick eating some of the duckling feed? Is the extra niacin bad for baby chicks?
Forgot about the stuffed animal thing! Our duck LOVED stuffed animals. Thanks for the reminder!
I got these guys from a farm about ~1hr...
Okay, my bad. I will stop by the store tomorrow and get chick feed. That should be alright for the gosling as well? What can I give him that has more niacin?
Hello!
Yeah, everything looks and feel alright. Sometimes the silkie holds the wing out a bit to where it looks "off", but doesn't appear to be in more pain if I take a look at it.
I have been feeding them lightly moist bread, tiny diced apples, and a dry grit (but the goose always soaks it...
I got a baby silkie chick, tiny little thing. Maybe 5-6 days old at the very most. It's been living in a small bin with a gosling and they've been doing great for the past couple of days.
Suddenly, the silkie just start crying out non-stop. Cheep cheep cheep cheep x400. Doesn't stop! It's...
I think it's already day 24 :( I put them in on the 1st. (They shipped out to me on the 27th) although, I did open the bator a few times... So temps weren't perfect.
So for future reference, veins don't mean anything? There could be veins, and the chick could be dead?
