    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Just did a "clean out" for the chicks that are hatched. So far I've got 31/45 hatched out unassisted (including one that pipped in the pointy end), one pipped but died in the Shell. Not sure what happened, it wasn't shrink wrapped. Guess the hatched ones were too rough with it. I have 13 eggs...

    Seeking Hatching Eggs Near Nashville

I've got some hatching today actually. I am looking to reload though. What do you have?

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

So my hatch has gone really well so far. I have no idea how many I've got. I tried to count them several times but they are all over the place and they follow the flashlight around. I definitely saw some more pips so I'm trying to wait but I want to get some of them out of there so bad. I guess...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

I had 2 hatched and several pips this morning when I got up. I went to Walmart for our groceries for the week and got the car serviced. Came back home and it's a mad house in the Bator. 7 hatched, one zipping, and a bunch of pips. It's hard to tell what's going on because the humidity is spiked...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

:jumpy:D I have 2 hatched and 5 pips that I can see. The 2 that are out are moving everything and it's getting harder to see pips. I'm already planning my next batch.

I do dry incubation as well. Mine usually stays around 40% and I have mostly gotten good results with that. From what I understand the styrofoam incubators hold humidity better than plastic ones do. This is my first hatch in several years and my first hatch ever with a store bought incubator...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

I put my eggs on lock down last night. Final candling eliminated 3 more. 45 made it to the hatch phase. To my surprise I have 5 pips today (day 19). I wasn't quite ready with the brooder. Guess I'll have an early morning setting all that up. Can't wait to see what all I get from this hatch.

Have you tried a salt test to calibrate your hygrometer? I think those air cells look ok for the point you are at.

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Well I'm at the end of day 15. I kept 55 eggs after my day 7 candling. Over this last week I've thinned that down to 48. The ones I have remaining look pretty good. I'm still incubating dry and the rh has stayed about 40% most of the time. I'm still a little worried though because the air cells...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

After my day 7 candling it looks like I have 55 viables moving on to the 2nd week. Much to my surprise 17 of 20 of the refrigerated eggs are developing nicely. Guess I'll candle again about day 10 or 11 to see if I can free up some space. Now I'm worried about being so far over capacity. We...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

My first hatch I had several die in the Shell as well. After reading up on it I decided it was too much humidity during the first 18 days. I starting doing dry incubation (adding no water until lockdown) and my hatch rate skyrocketed. I live in mid. TN where it's quite humid to begin with. My...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Man oh man... This is an active group! I got busy for a few days and I had like 40 pages of posts to catch up on. I set my eggs last Sunday evening so they are due 5/17. I have some mixed EE, RIR, and some maran crosses that I purchased locally. I "stacked" some homegrown eggs that I bought...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Hey everybody. I'd like to get in on the hatch along. I just set my eggs about an hour ago. EE mixes and some barnyard Cross. Nice pretty eggs, guess I'll see what I get. I'm using a farm innovation 4250 circulated air with turner. I've hatched hundreds in a homemade Bator in the past but this...

Pros and Cons of the Farm Innovators Pro series Incubator

@audreymarie - I got a thermometer/hygrometer to place inside the incubator to check the accuracy of the unit control. The thermometer completely agreed with no variance. After seeing the results of the Temp I did the salt test calibration for the hygrometer. Put it back in and it looks like...

Pros and Cons of the Farm Innovators Pro series Incubator

Ah yes, I misunderstood what you meant. The one I bought has that feature. It's nice. One side is the one you use all along and the other side is for raising the humidity at lockdown. You can add water with a turkey baster from outside the Bator.
