I was worried they were all roosters, which is why I put up the one with the two largest combs. The rest of there combs are barely an 1/8" (rough estimate) long. I appreciate all the help!!
On a side note my polish frizzels started hatching today!!!! :)
Theoldchick thank you very much those pictures defonetly helped me see the difference. I was not aware there combs could be so large at 8 weeks. I am new to this experience I was hoping for one cockerel but guess it is time to buy one or incubate more eggs. Lol
I have a 5 gallon bucket feeder and it works great and makes feeding alot easier. I only have 11 chickens right now, but I only have to fill it about once a month.
Can anyone give me a ruff guess on the gender of my chicks. They are 8 weeks old today. I'm almost positive the 1 road island red is a rooster, but I'm not sure on the others.[/IMG][/IMG]
Just break it to me easy, are there more roosters then hens?
So far 5 out of 6 are completely out of there shells and walking around good now. My last one put a huge gapping hole in the shell and I can watch it breathing, but I don't believe it has the strength to get out. It has been like this for roughly twelve hours, but it does keep fighting to make...

I'm on my first incubation and my first chick to hatch just keeps falling down every time it tries to stand. It has only been out 30 mins, but I was wondering if this is normal. I see all these videos were chicks hatch and stand up almost right away.
Meep beep and chickerdoodle13 thank you both for the advice. I cannot currently afford to refence the whole acre so I am going to refence a quarter acre for the two goats and hold off on getting anymore until I can refence the rest. I am hoping a 5' fence will dojust fine.possibly even go into...
Thank you both for the great advice. I will try replacing the fence becuase the post are still solid. What do you think about barb wire at the top instead of an electric line?
I use straw in my coop. It is cost effective and gives them a little extra warmth on clld evenings.for my chicken run I fenced in a 40' x 20' area that has grass, raspberry, tomatoes, corn and clover I have growing in it. In the morning I go in and open the hatch and they just wonder around...
