    Bear Flipped over coop

Omg! I'm so sorry. Raising Chickens for that reason is the hardest part. The predators seem to always win. Our chicken yard is so ugly with all the wire wrapped around it. Something could get in if they really tried. So frustrating.

    Silkie Chick with Bloody Stools

Yes mine are in a sectioned off part of the chicken yard since getting their adult feathers. They aren't free range yet. Not until they are familiar with the hutch and are mature enough and friendly enough to follow me back. They also have 4 other adult chickens to get along with so I keep them...

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Found him a home didn't take more than a week. Funny though how people answer ads, say they will come by today or now and never show up. At least this guy did.

Keeping your flock safe from predators

It's August now. My sad hen made a full recovery. I still have all 3 girls and lock them up at night now. I also have bought 5 more chickens they are 4 months old and nearly the same size as my large Rhode island reds. I started them in my shed with the heat lamp and moved them into the big pen...

When do you let them venture outside?

I have 4 month old chicks, I also have 3 year old chickens. I can't remember when I let them out to free range? I think when I did I coaxed them back to the pen in the evening with mealy worms. Has anyone else had experience with whether the chicks will automaticly stay in the fenced yard and go...

Keeping your flock safe from predators

Ok, I just checked her head to toe and see nothing. She's walking around the yard slowly not keeping up with the other chicks and not eating although I did see her drink some water. Maybe she's just sore from fighting? Maybe strained something? She's very mellow and slow and not really eating. I...

fox attack during broad daylight while I was outside!

I have lost 2 hens recently to what I believe is Raccoon...not sure. I have a hen house and 5' fenced in hen yard but that does not stop the Raccoon from climbing over and trapping my hens in their hen house. So now....UGH I have to go out every evening and not only make sure my hen run gate is...

Keeping your flock safe from predators

I recently lost 2 of my 5 Rhode island reds. The first disappeared without any sign the second just the other night and clearly was dragged over my 5' wire fence and taken away. I feel now that even though I went to great lengths to provide shelter and what I thought was a secure fenced chicken...
