    Rooster foot infection

One of his nails chipped last year and you can see the end of his toe is also swollen. I think he has a foot infection

    Rooster foot infection

I recently cleaned and sprayed permethrin in the coop. No other chickens have the mites. I'm not positive he has them now, even though his scales are raised. I plan on doing the epsom bath, Vaseline won't hurt anything so I'll try that as well. I have ivermectin on hand so I'll treat him with...

    Rooster foot infection

Hey y'all, My rooster has been dealing with this foot infection for close to a year. Last summer I noticed it, it was a small red bump that seemed to cause discomfort. It seems to be festering and getting worse and I'm not sure the best course of action. I treated him for leg mites last...

    Patches on comb

Hello, When checking on my hen today, I noticed some patches on her comb. Can't tell what the cause is, but they seem sensitive. I live in CT, usa. We just had a big rain come through, it's been very humid lately. She occasionally has had some tiny yellow bugs on her face, but they don't seem...

    Coughing for several months

Hi, I have a hen who has been 'coughing' for several months. One of her flock mates also was coughing around the time I noticed her first cough, but has since stopped. Just this one hen has been continually 'coughing'. She is still eating and drinking and laying eggs daily. She's on the...

    Possible respiratory issue

Ah, a baker I once lived with said that starter is like porridge for them. They go crazy for the starter. As with most things in chicken keeping, people definitely argue for it and against it. I'm a baker so I often have extra, and they seem to love it and it adds some probiotic. The older hens...

    Possible respiratory issue

And I'm pretty sure I heard gurgling before I fed the starter, but not positive as I've been paying closer attention to her since feeding her. After listening to her breath closely with my ear on her chest, she sounds unobstructed. She's definitely hot and she seems hotter than the rest of the...

    Possible respiratory issue

She's still laying daily. She's about 6 months. She just laid an egg moments ago. I've never dewormed her. I got her from a commercial farm just over a month ago. I've never dewormed any of my chickens, I've had my flock for just over a year now. Sourdough starter is a rare treat and it is...

    Possible respiratory issue

Hello, I have a hen that seems to have a slight gurgle in her breath. She's been open mouth breathing the last 2 days, but at night it seemed to stop. I'm in Connecticut, USA, and yesterday it got to about 82 degrees. Today it's still mid 70s and she's still open mouth breathing. I have her...

    Rhode island red 5 months

Well maybe it's OK that their beaks are clipped then. I'm more of an all-natural kinda person, but I got these from a larger more conservative type of farm. Looks like they didn't do too much of a hack job.

    Rhode island red 5 months

Thanks, I think I understand now. The differentiation is because two Sex Link Reds will not pass their notable traits down to their youth. Where as a R I R and many other breeds certainly will.

    Rhode island red 5 months

Oh that's not great to hear. They seem very sweet so far, but they're also pretty scared.
