Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

Update : Previously I had used garden hose to connect the two waterers (one inside, one outside) together. The design flaw I had was the hose had to go up and over an obstacle with about 4 feet of rise. This is what made me have to turn up the pressure too high so that the regulator could...

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

It's not just a good idea, IT'S THE LAW. :) Thanks to the pros for weighing in -- you guys have a lot of experience in this. My single data point is that the higher I turn up that little regulator, the more spray / drip / mess there is .... And the nipples do leak on their own, just...

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

It's working OK. On my system I put one of the hoses entering the coop up too high. As a result I have to leave the pressure up at 5psi or so or it will not overcome gravity. If you can place your regulator above your pipe that would help keep the system pressure low. As is, the nipples...

What's the best organic layer feed & how do I make my spoiled hens eat

We're having the same problem -- they don't eat the pellets and then act like they're starving. We tried changing pellet brands, and that worked for a while, but they are back to being picky. I think we've given them too many tasty table scraps and they're spoiled. The problem with the...

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

Quote: You mean like a faucet or or something like this ? I don't think that will work well. Even w/ the 10PSI inline regulator for drip systems I was using, I created a chicken shower instead of a chicken waterer. I really had to step down the pressure in the line in order for this...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Iheartchicks<3 : Those are awesome pcs! What kinda camera? Thanks guys. I shot those for my wife's new blog : http://city.yolktal.es/. It's a Nikon D90 w/ a nikkor 35mm lens, but brand and model isn't too important. Any SLR w/ a fast prime lens is great for indoor, up close shots like eggs.

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

Quote: Wow, really? Those things will handle 50-70psi? That would have been an easier route. I got the regulator hooked up today and it seems to be working well. Only 1 hen took to it immediately, hopefully the other ones learn by example. I did notice a small drop forming at the tip of...

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

Thanks 6shooter, that sounds neat. I wonder if using smaller ID piping reduces the pressure or not. I got the regulator today, so I might get a chance to install it this weekend. -m

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

So I bit the bullet and got that "4090" regulator. You can find it forsale by a zillion game bird producers across the country. Google '4090 "pressure reducing valve"' It looks like everyone is reselling it from the same chinese manufacturer and using the same catalog. I'll let you know if...

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

thanks guys Quote: sixshooter, do you have a picture or a link too the regulator you used? I was going to do the float valve + bucket idea to begin with, but when i went to the hardware store and priced out all the fittings and the toilet float valve (couldn't find a generic one) it was...

Pressure Regulator / Pressure Reducing Valve for nipple waterer

Quote: Thanks Mac! I couldn't find the actual pressure needed for these. I think it's going to be very hard to find a cheap pressure reducing valve that goes from 50psi down to 0.15 -> 0.30 psi correctly. The $10 regulator was at the top of my budget as is. I'll go for the bucket. -m
