We keep finding one of our Delawares on her side in the coop. Her legs are pulled close to her body but they are in the air. Kind of looks like she has keeled over but once we pick her up, she seems fine. Eating, drinking and pooping just fine. It has happened about 5 times now...
We have been getting our feed from Belmont Feed and Seed for the last three years. Lydia has been great and they usually have what we need in stock but looking at different options. Any suggestions? We are wanting 16% protein, all organic mash.
We lost the lovely Sly Buttercup last week due to her eating commercial rock salt. Our coop is located in front of our school and the school's custodian used rock salt on the sidewalk directly in front of the garden where the hens free-range. Buttercup just stuck her head out the fence and...
I wanted to post these x-rays of the bound egg in Millie.....so fascinating and as you can tell...that sucker was BIG! No wonder she was in agony.

Millie update: she is back at the coop and acting pretty happy. We are continuing to give her extra calcium orally and checking to make sure that she is not dehydrated.
And then guess what we found today??? Our very first egg! We are hoping that it came from Millie but it could very well...
