Ready for outside?
We have five babies in a brooder cage that are right at 4 weeks old. Here in Tennessee, the highs are in the mid 90's during the day (heat index in triple digits), and lows of mid 70's (heat index around 80) at night...although next week the lows get back down to around 71. My Khaki Campbells stopped laying eggs for about a 2 week stretch of time...or so I thought. Turns out they dug out an "egg hole" and were burying them in a really hard to get to spot under the chicken coop. Oh I'm definitely not going to attempt to vent sex them. I'll just wait until they're older...I'm pretty patient when it comes to that stuff. Our biggest obstacle now is trying to come up with unisex names for them that we can all agree on! LOL -

I'm very experienced with hatching chicken eggs. This will be my first duck hatch, though. I guess I picked a complicated pair to cross for my first time! I'm excited, though. Thank you all! I was so nervous to start lockdown. I didn't want to do it 4 days too early. But hypothetically, if the eggs were 32 day eggs and I locked down for 28 day eggs, would the early lockdown be harmful to the remainder of the incubation? -

I have some eggs in the incubator that are coming up on hatch day. These babies will be hybrids (mother is a khaki campbell and father is a muscovy). So the gestation period of ducks is 28 days, except muscovies which is 35 days. I'm curious, since these are mixed with both, will they be 28 eggs...- mc79
