Are these anconas and are they boys or girls?

There is a website called Donors Choose where teachers can post projects they want to do with their students. When you first sign up with the website, you are only allowed to use their suppliers until you build up enough points to choose from other suppliers. The eggs and hovabator were...

Are these anconas and are they boys or girls?

I think this guy (the two photos above) is definitely a dark cornish - I looked at the photos of chicks and they look very much like this, with a straight "cheeta" stripe. But I don't see any cheetah spotted chicks like the one below. I am determined to solve this mystery. Also, look at this...

Are these anconas and are they boys or girls?

The comb is not even visible. Most of the the other birds have a very definite comb, but not my cheetah. Feathers have changed a little, but not much. They were 2 weeks old yesterday. Here are his very NOT blue legs. This chick really wants to fly. Very talkative. I wish I had known ahead...

Our First Backyard Coop - seeking advice

Can I change where I have it posted, or do I just need to start it over? I am still learning how to do this. I am not a big tech fan. I don't even have text on my phone.

What age do the legs turn blue - because they are still yellow orange now - at 2 weeks old today.

Our First Backyard Coop - seeking advice

Thank you for your response, that was very helpful. We are new at this and are learning as we go. We are really leaning toward the sand idea.

    Second Graders Learning About Chickens

Thank you for your excellent advice! Here is a picture of the coop they will move to until we have one finished here at school. It is not totally finished, but since the chicks are only 2 weeks old, we have some time. We live in Georgia, so it is plenty warm. We will try to wait until at least...

Our First Backyard Coop - seeking advice

My husband and my son are putting the finishing touches on the coop. We have been getting conflicting advice on what to put down. We would like to harvest as much of the poo as possible for our compost. Some people told us to use coarse sand and you can sift it like cat litter. My fear is...

    Second Graders Learning About Chickens

Our 19 babies at 2 weeks old - yes they are in a dog crate for now. The only thing I could find big enough to hold them that they cannot fly out of. Questions for today: When can the chickens go outside? When will we know for sure if we have a rooster? Can we feed the baby chicks scraps, or...

AT Hagen - awesome display! My students would have loved to have seen it. Thank you for responding. We have been so pleased with this forum and look forward to more communications.

    Second Graders Learning About Chickens

Thanks Rich 386, I would like to hear more about how to relate pecking order to bullying. We have a strong no bullying campaign, that would be nice tie in.

    Second Graders Learning About Chickens

My students recently hatched 19 baby chicks. Today they are 2 weeks old. We were keeping the chicks in our classroom in several large boxes. The boxes obviously were not large enough because now the babies can fly out. For sanitation purposes, I took the babies home. The students are very...

Are these anconas and are they boys or girls?

Yes, my mistake. Golden Penciled Hamburgs is what I was thinking. I have looked at so many chicks/breeds that they run through my dreams!! Do you think that is what they look like? My students call them our cheetah print chicks. They also call the anconas penguins.

Are these anconas and are they boys or girls?

This is a photo of the eggs we received. We were guaranteed 1/2 to be fertilized. 19 hatched - alive and well. 8 out of the 11 not hatched looked unfertilized, and 3 (including the one green egg) had fully formed chicks inside, but they were dead. We cracked them open 3 days after the hatch...

Are these anconas and are they boys or girls?

Thank you both for your responses. I had brown eggs, cream eggs, white eggs, and a brown egg with dark brown spots. I should have documented better on which bird came from which egg. My chipmunk types are starting to have variations. I originally thought they were brown leghorns too, until I...
