Never seen an egg like this before!

Our easter egger gave up this treasure yesterday morning. WOW! Mother Nature can be so awesome sometimes :)

Young chickens roosting in the wrong place!

Mine are now 17 to 19 weeks of age and have just started sleeping on their roost bar. I guess they must have really felt safe on the floor for all that time.

Young chickens roosting in the wrong place!

My birds are now between 13-15 weeks of age and still will not roost, preferring to remain as a huddled mass on the floor in one corner of the coop. They get up on the roost during the day (as evidenced by them pooping while there), but have not used it to roost at night at all. Any ideas why...

My grandmother used to sling a few mothballs around the outside edges of her old back porch to keep away snakes. I never heard of any surprise, so maybe it does work :)

No heat lamps or heat will be used. Fans definitely in our summer heat. I don't want extension cords running across the yard.

I am going to use a gable vent style fan most likely. I have not purchased one yet, but will most likely get it from Amazon. Somewhere around 1500-1600 CFM m,ost likely.

It will have a 5"seamless gutter on it for sure. Thanks for the input. I will trim out the fascia like the rest of the coop. I will be running an electrical subpanel to the coop once I get the run functional too. I have to have electricity for lights and a attic/gable high CFM fan at the least.

Getting run finished slowly. I had to order another 50' roll of 48" wide 1/2" hardware cloth to finish run. I ordered a 50' roll of 36" wide 1/2 hardware cloth too for the uncovered area of the run too. The 4x4's in the uncovered area will be cut to length as soon as I get the upper section of...

The building is 10x12. I partitioned the inside into a 7x10 coop space and the remainder is used to collect eggs, store feed, bedding, tools.

Got the holes bored for the covered run/run area today. Tomorrow start setting posts and mixing concrete. The covered section of the run will be 8x12 and the uncovered area will be 12x12. Built a ramp to allow chicks to get access to roost yesterday. Slowly coming together. The girls are...

My juvenile hens are not roosting

I have 6 pullets with 2 of them being 9 weeks old and 4 that are 7 weeks old. They have yet to migrate to their roost area. They huddle in one corner of the coop and sleep as clutch on the floor. Will they start using the roost soon? I have a ramp built and the two oldest ones can fly up to...

    Run wiring

I always think worst case scenario. I will sleep better knowing I have one less thing that could go wrong down the road.

2' or 4' hardware cloth question

How much 2 foot material will you need vs 4 foot material? 4 foot material will be stronger than stitched together 2 foot imo. I look at it as a one time deal so I would probably just cut the 4 foot material where required for narrower spots. If you only need a small amount of 4 foot wide then...
