    GIANT sturdy hawk netting

Hi! Sorry, I am bad at seeing my notifications. I do still have it, it's been outside so will need some untangling & cleaning off, but I can def take a closer look at it come spring (or next good thaw) if you're still interested. I'll unfurl it some & make sure it's not gotten moldy in the...

Let's talk Oregano Essential Oil for Chickens... Uses? Dosing? Benefits? Can it be used daily?

I don't see how diluting essential oil in water would be safer... Since it's oil and water, it seems like it would be impossible to get a truly homogenous mixture, and you'd be left with a gallon of plain water, with a bunch of little droplets of undilute essential oil sitting on the top...

    Chicken fountain

Maybe silicone caulk? As long as bits of it aren't poking out to look tempting for them to peck at?

Using Metoclopramide (Reglan) to treat impacted crop

Thanks! Update re: delivery method for the oral Metoclopramide, I had missed the instructions on the bottle - you just squirt the 1.5 mg dose on some crumbs of torn-up bread (not much bread, a couple teaspoons' worth does it). It says put the crumbs in the bird's beak, but my hen just gobbled...

Using Metoclopramide (Reglan) to treat impacted crop

Adding to this old thread in case it is helpful for somebody else down the line... I have found ONE vet in my area who'll treat chickens. After a televet consult, she's recommended Metoclopramide for my hen with a slow crop. She's a Brahma, almost 2 years old. A week ago the bird was acting...

Yard surveillance - Audio instead of video?

Well, once or twice I've heard the chickens all sounding the alarm at once & go out there & realize a hawk is perched low & looking at them. So I was more counting on the hens to be making noise when something's spooked them.

    GIANT sturdy hawk netting

I have an enormous net I was going to string up over my back yard to keep hawks away. I've realized this takes a lot more equipment & diy skills than I'm prepared for (and that I also don't want a huge net covering my yard. It is very sturdy, with holes big enough for songbirds to fly through. I...

Yard surveillance - Audio instead of video?

I'm letting my girls roam around most of the day in the yard. For spring & summer I sat out with them or had windows open, so I could hear & come poke my head out when they start squawking to make sure it's egg song & not "something predatory is eyeballing us". Now that it's getting too cold...

    keeping covered run dry.

With the zeolite, do you have to remove it after to avoid the birds eating it or anything?

    Netting

If anybody close to northern VT wants a LARGE quantity of heavy-duty hawk netting, hit me up. I realized I wasn't up for figuring out how to mount it. It could be cut into smaller pieces to use over a smaller run.

Ground Squirrels? Now, I have to protect against Ground Squirrels???

Careful, that article recommends lily of the valley which I've been told is very toxic to chickens.

    Icicle butt

    1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) My birds are all just over 6 months old. She is a Golden-laced Wyandotte and has always been a little smaller than the others. 2) What is the behavior, exactly. She had some icicles stuck to...
