Will a chicken sing the egg song without laying an egg?

It wasn't. I checked everywhere in the run. Thankfully that chicken has started laying. Still waiting on the rest of them though.

Will a chicken sing the egg song without laying an egg?

Thanks so much for the information! I had heard that the egg song was to summon other chickens to lay in the same spot to rapidly build a clutch of eggs. I didn't realize they were calling for a rooster.

Will a chicken sing the egg song without laying an egg?

I have 7 pullets that I am anxiously awaiting for them to come into lay. (Almost 20 weeks old) Three look like they're really ready. The other 4 are not quite there. Anyway, about 5 minutes ago I heard it from inside the house, the perfect egg song! And so of course, I ran outside like a...

    CROCS! YES OR NO?

I actually bought a pair to use as coop shoes. I figured they'd be easy to hose off. I don't intend to ever wear them in public. LOL.

When should I set up my nesting boxes? Start offering oyster shell?

Thanks! We have a ton of old golf balls. That's what we'll use. :)

When should I set up my nesting boxes? Start offering oyster shell?

My pullets are between 15-16 weeks old. I read somewhere that you shouldn't add any padding/hay/hemp etc to nesting boxes initially to keep the chicks from deciding that it's a good place to hang out and poo. And for the most part, they don't hang out in them, so that seems to be working. My...

How long after setting up a coop/run did you notice anything trying to get in?

I'm in the US, outside of Philadelphia, PA. We trenched down about a foot where the run was going to be set and packed 12 inch ceramic tiles in vertically and put the run directly on top of it and used earth anchors to secure it to the ground. And then we ran 1/2" hardware cloth around the...

How long after setting up a coop/run did you notice anything trying to get in?

We're new at this so please excuse the noob question. We've had our chickens outside in the coop/run for 2 months now and so far everything is great. It doesn't look like anything has tried to dig under, no indications of mice or anything. We have a lot of possible predators in the area...

6 Week Old Chick Sex Question

They were marketed as Silver Laced Wyandotte. But I can check skin color. . . What is the difference in skin color between the Wyandotte and the Orpington? I didn't even think that they'd give me incorrect sexlinked chicks. The first photo is in the box from the feed store. The three sex...

6 Week Old Chick Sex Question

Hi all, Our chicks are just shy of 6 weeks and the suspense is killing me. We have 7, 3 are autosexing/sex link but the other 4 are "pullets" *with a 90% accuracy from the feed store. I tried getting pictures like the ones in the example, but we're acclimating them to the outside and they...
