Help diagnosing our pet hen "Potato". Equilibrium off, wry neck, not eating after a long road almost to recovery from an opposum bite.

Potato's health was on the mend after attempted removal of abscess from opposum bite. Sudden decline leading to malnourished, off balance, wry neck like symptoms.any help really appreciated.

Lethargic Chick with balloon in chest...?

In case you never found out what happened to your little chick I'm going to guess it was a ruptured air sacs. Subcutaneous emphysema is what that causes. If you don't relieve the pressure the air sacs don't heal. If you do, they heal very quickly. All you need is an 18 gauge syringe and a way to...

What breed is this big guy?

The cowlick on the back of his neck.. what would that be from? Or would it be wry neck? I don't understand the whole wry neck thing. His neck seems a little curved right at the base of his skull but it could be normal. Idk. But he did have one episode since we've had him where I found him all...

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

I'm sorry I got so side tracked letting everyone know what was going on.. it was a ruptured air sac and we deflated him and he was good as new by the next day. Thank you so much.

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

Thank you so so much. I wonder why all the videos there are are baby birds. I haven't seen a single one for a more mature bird.. and there's really not too much info on ruptured air sacs in general.. figures. Thanks again though. 🙃

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

Ok, sorry it's been a crazy day. No other birds sick. It's air. He hasn't died. He actually started to act his usual hellion self.. I think it was just extra uncomfortable and scary for him at first but he obviously got used to whatever the sensation is.. is it painful? We have been debating who...

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

Could it be air?? He's just filling up like a balloon. Where would it all come from? I'm trying to maintain but I think he's dying and I can't do anything about it. We are homeless and live on a freaking island and I don't see him surviving any sort of transport...

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

He's literally so swollen with liquid I can't tell. I don't want to squeeze on him. I'm going to go read that now. I wasn't here yesterday to notice what he was eating or how he was acting either.

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

All the injuries are superficial as far as I know. He got pecked on the head a couple times I'm sure but someone is always here to break it up before anything happens. I'm more tore up than either bird.

Oh jeez major thing I forgot, he had no poop that I could see under him from last night. None.

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

No vet. I haven't ever had a need for one. His legs look a little pale.. he has a little darkness on the back of his comb. I mean, when I left yesterday he was fine. He did stop terrorizing my big boy yesterday. He has been pecked and bit a couple times recently and the rest of his boo boos are...

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

He just let out a weak crow for the first time today. And also, he does feel hot. He's not panting. He is alert but not himself.

Rapid and severe swelling in body and face

Is this avian flu? We are in Brevard County Florida. It happened over night. And I have watched him swell more and more this morning. I wasn't home yesterday to notice anything. My boyfriend had him in bed already. He has been in a couple scuffles with our other rooster recently. Also, I...

    Where does your Rooster sleep?

I have one that sleeps on my chest. One that sleeps in a little bin beside us on the ground. And one sleeps in one of the palms my hammock is hanging from. I fashion cardboard poop bibs for myself, which believe it or not, are 100% effective. Only since Bruce let me know he didn't appreciate the...
