    Large hard gizzard

Quote: Thanks for the link! I'm sure it was the gizzard now. I guess they were just so hungry they picked everything off the ground that wasn't 'glued' down and it just couldn't digest. I feel better knowing it probable wasn't some sickness! With the next group we do next week, I'll be sure to...

    Large hard gizzard

No, we didn't cut them open. Didn't think to do that. They were in the same pen that we always put the others in before processing them. I really don't know the insides much. Never eatten any of those parts. When I gut them, I just usually pull everything out in one lump and don't look at it...

    Large hard gizzard

We have processed several meat chickens before. Some of the ones we did today, however seemed to have large, rock hard gizzards (inside - not the crop). At first I thought it was the liver but we think it was the gizzard instead. We usually cage them the night before with only water and haven't...

    Do roosters pray?

I have noticed that about 1-2 times per day, both our roosters (at different times) will go into the chicken house, face the wall or corner, kneel down then bow its head. . He will stay like this for about 5 minutes than come out, unless there is a disturbance for which he will come out...

Help. Chicken with huge swollen red butt

Everything on here has to do with adult chickens. Does anyone know what a red swollen doughnut shaped thing below the vent of a chick that's only about 2-3 months old. It's chirping a lot and wants to be held unlike the other little ones. Is this most likely an individual thing, or could it have...

Anyone want to hatch out a twin egg along with others???

I was just wondering if there could be two in one and this post tells me it can happen. We had a girl that just hatched some eggs. A week ago I moved her and eggs to a private nest to keep the other girls from stealing her eggs. I moved 9 eggs with her. When she was done, there was one egg that...

    Foam from hatching chick egg

Thanks for the post, but all the eggs were about the same size and laid within just 2-3 days of each other. It's about 36 hours old now and seems to be fine. I just thought it was wierd and wondered how to prevent it next time since it looked like it could sufficate in the shell.

    Foam from hatching chick egg

Thanks. I did open the shell a tiny bit because I was affraid of that, but my hatch rate is around 80% and healthy so I didn't understand why this one was like that.

    Foam from hatching chick egg

I couldn't find this in any of the other topics. I am hatching a batch now and have had only had two issues. One pecked a hole that had some blood then died and one that I saw foam (just a small amount) coming from the openings of the shell. It hatched on its own like the others, but I had to...

Chick just hatched, has hanging ball from belly, now is bleeding.

I used incubator for first time about two months ago (a still air). Follow the directions, watched it closely to control temp and water, but only had 6 hatch out of about 22 and they didn't hatch until around the 25th - 26th day! Only one survived. One had the same thing happen. As the sac...
