I'm in the coop building process. It has a four by seven floor, one large patio door glass panel, half inch hardware cloth, PT plywood roof with shingles my neighbor was hiding.
I used three broken bags of sacrete. One dollar each at Lowe's. I just dumped the dry sacrete in the coop and wet it down.
End result, its a hard durable surface that I can hose down
Mix malrin with peanut butter, it'll dissolve in the oils. I put the mixture on fence posts, down low, and up on top to eliminate squirrels too (they eat my avocados )
This stuff is deadly, I have no pets and chickens are in the coop for a while. This stuff works.
I've got King Snakes in my area of Melbourne FL... I consider them to be desireable. When King Snakes are around I've never seen a rat (or a rat snake). I've seen them around but never in the coop.
Horizontal water nipples... i'll have to look into this further. Here's my deal, I live in Melbourne FL so I never have a water freeze issue <grinning widely> I run water from my deep well, 440 feet deep with substantial ground/hrydostatic flow.. Uncapped I'd estimate it flows 50 to 75...
Greetings... another new member here. I was always looking but joined today.
I'm a renewed (second time) backyard flock owner in Melbourne FL. With the benefit of warmer weather, plenty of open space.. I hope to have 10 mixed hens when I'm finished with the plan.
I'll post photos as I go...
