Well, Caitlyn walked very quickly from the coop to the haystack first thing this morning. He/she is sitting on the nest. I am resisting the urge to give Caitlyn more fertile eggs, because I don’t know if this is true broodiness or just a confused drake playing house.
I just posted this in a FB group:
"We have a lot of ducks; Muscovy waterfowl, to be exact. They are not true ducks though, so when one breeds with a regular duck, the offspring are sterile; mules.
Someone dumped one of these mules in our pasture at some point. I watched this beautiful girl grow...
I have a mystery chicken I haven't been able to figure out. He or she has long, spindly legs, a tucked rump, and a psychotic attitude. It tends to be a loaner but also hangs around the chickens it hatched with.
I just figured out today that it is a guinea cross. The mother is a hen (maybe one of...
Hello. Are you still a member of this forum? I read your comments about band castration of dogs. I'm interested in talking about how your dogs did. Ours licked a hole in his backside and we're chasing issues daily. Just wondering if you have a vet who may be interested in a phone consult with me...
Hello. My neighbor has lavender and is looking to buy more colors. I'm going to purchase a couple of blue hens. We will be breeding my hens to her roosters.
Do you know if the differences between the lavender [self blue] and the blue are remarkable or are they subtle? I want to make sure I buy...
Per the instructions here, I think I under dosed my peahen today.
She weighs approx 10#
I gave her .45 ml SQ in the neck. Will dose her again in 2 days.
Not sure if I should give her more than .45? I guess I'll document her symptoms (hoping they fade away tomorrow) and decide if I should give...
I would love to see everyone's chick pix. These were from last March's feed store purchase. Welsummer on top and mystery chick on the bottom. She's grown up to look exactly like the Wellies so I have no idea what she is. Maybe a Partridge Plymouth Rock?
I feel your pain on the bumblebee. We finally have honeybees in our yard after several lean years where there was little pollination. This year we had thousands. Each was a welcome visitor, producing a bumper crop of tomatoes, lettuce seed for winter planting, eggplant, and more.
I like to watch...
Yes. I agree that the standards stand and walk a lot like a regular chicken. I seem to remember that the standard Silkies my uncle had were as tall as the white leghorns we had. Their crests weren't all that striking and they had no beard. His were all pure white. When I started looking for...
