    Freezer burnt shrimp

I only threw out a half dozen or so yesterday, so I might just give each one today. I have two large bags of them, so they will get a special treat every week for a while :)

    Freezer burnt shrimp

Some loved them, and some could care less. LOL But glad it's good calcium, as one is lacking it.

    Freezer burnt shrimp

Just curious - we have two bags of raw shrimp tail on that is freezer burnt beyond where we want to eat them. Could I bake them up and give them to the chickens whole?

    Chickens with a view

Our chickens get a great view every day. Unfortunately, we lost one of our girls last night. :( Turns out she had some kind of mass/blockage in her back end, and after a friend looked at her, she started flopping when I put her down. She was one of our favorites. :( Now we only have 11 birds.

I know this has been asked, and kinda answered........but

Thanks!! Just curious - will that firm them up also? Have one with a runny butt, and someone had suggested pumpkin, but none will touch it.

I know this has been asked, and kinda answered........but

What would be a "small amount of cottage cheese" for a flock of 12? I found which hen it is that is laying the soft-shelled eggs in our flock, but unfortunately she had already gotten up and was in the house with other hens and I can't tell the RIR's apart. I'll also have to get a higher...

    Backend issues

Sorry the photo is blurry, but is this something to be concerned about, or is this normal? She seemed confused on getting out of the coop this morning.

Post here if you DON'T wash clean-looking eggs

Sorry for the stupid question, but I figure I had better ask. You mention about not washing, and if you do wash to refrigerate. Just curious - how wet would you consider "washing"? With all this rain we've been having, my hands are wet by the time I pick up the eggs. Is that ok, or should...

    How essential is a rooster?

Thanks Weehopper! He is a lot vocal now than when we first got him, so you could be right with what you said. I'm out on the central Oregon coast, so same climate as you.

    How essential is a rooster?

Quote: Well, the coop is maybe 30' from our bedroom window. So he's quite loud when you're trying to sleep. There might have been a predator out there, but it sounded more like his morning crow.

    How essential is a rooster?

Thanks! Talked with the one neighbor that we weren't sure about, and he said that today when he was outside with the dog was the first time he's heard him. Turns out they are wanting to get chickens also, and are coming up tomorrow to look at our coop. So only one who could possibly have an...

    How essential is a rooster?

Our rooster, while he's a sweetheart, is so very loud! This morning he was crowing at 4am in the dark, and he's been crowing non-stop all day. While I could care less if he bothers one of our neighbors, another neighbor has said they can hear him if they are outside, and they don't care, but I...
