11 weeks old now, it’s harder to get photos as they’re now out and about with the rest of the flock. But all 14 are still present and accounted for.
They have names now too!
The two partridge are Chestnut and Maple
Two blue are Willow and Spruce
Three black are Hickory, Oak, and Cedar
Three...
I’m going to guess;
Mixed breed (Brahma and something else maybe?) And Cockerel.
Not for anything they are showing, but for how they were found. I suspect someone’s hen hatched a bunch of chicks and they tried to throw out all the boys.
/or they tried to throw out the whole clutch because...
Fair enough. This is all second hand and the witness was watching from a distance, as she was sitting on the front porch of the house when the hen came by. This same hen has caused witness trouble before such as digging and eating seeds out of her garden bed.
Witness stated she saw Basilisk...
Huh, wouldn’t have suspected protein. They’re on a feed with higher than normal protein content currently since I have the younger birds being mixed in, but I can definitely look into it. Thanks!
I was sent this photo evidence of one of my hens eating an egg.
This is Basalisk, a 2yr old Olive Egger. The eye witness reported that they saw he carrying something white, then throw it on the driveway and start eating.
Egg eating isn’t great, but I think it’s important to know where she...
Six weeks today!
A few of the others are starting to develop waddles now, but they’re still small and the combs are more yellow. Then there are others who don’t show comb or waddles. Each chick seems determined to look different from her sisters.
Anyway, my most suspicious child.
Five weeks old and all moved out. They’ll meet the others birds soon, for now my hens just get to circle the pen and watch jealously the chicks enjoy the chick crumble.
Final count for colors I’d say,
2 partridge, 2 blue, 3 white, 3 black, 4 self-blue/lavender
All are meant to be pullets but...
Miss eye-shadow (#4 from earlier) has a weird little off-white color.
Not as white as the other three, but definitely not as blue as the self-blue trio. Just slightly silvery.
(#8 and #3 for comparison.)
Hoping to move these kids outside soon. They’re getting big fast.
Let’s see with some clearer pictures. Got pooped on a couple times for this impromptu photo shoot but worth it.
So many little details I missed earlier, like #4’s little eye makeup. Wonder if that’ll stick around in adulthood, it’s really cute.
Ooo, Interesting
Would definitely be fun if their are some splash’s in here, that’s not one the hatchery says they have.
Will be fun to see what colors come out as they grow.

My newest batch is a week old now. 14 little Cochins in a variety of colors. I got them from ideal poultry. First time ordering from them, and the hatchery’s choice doesn’t guarantee a variety of colors, but I certainly think I got a good variety anyway.
Wanna help me guess at what colors...
Hoovers is quite silly with their Americana’s, Amauracana’s and Easter eggers
But Easter egger is good with me lol. I have one hen already who I adore. Fingers crossed that this kid grows into a respectable member of society. I’d hate to have to get rid of him, but if he hurts my hens my hands...
