I know! She's a nasty piece of work, we've questioned potentially having to rehome her. She's an older girl and doesn't lay eggs, but adores people. But she's done this to quite a few of our girls. We have another rescue girl Rosie (beautiful natured) 5 orpingtons, 4 speckled sussex and an...
Hi all, we have some beautiful Buff Orpington and speckled sussex pullets that are 22-25 weeks old. (the buff orpingtons have recently copped some aggression from a rescue hen that's now isolated from the others)
Are these normal comb & wattle developments for this age?
We have a 29 week old...
Hey all, I posted this on the Facebook BYC page too, I'm so curious!
We have 11 chickens, 1 of which is a laying Hyline rescue hen called Rosie (very sporadically laying, maybe 1-2 a week). This morning we had a rather large, whiter coloured egg, which we think could be that of miss Buttercup -...
Hey all!
I have 4 Speckled Sussex chickens all 16 weeks - none are crowing, I don't see any saddle or sickle feathering and their combs appear to still be small and pink. No wattles have appeared yet either!
Do these look like pullets to you? 😊
Hi all!
My 12 week old Buff Orpingtons are tricking me - I'm fairly certain I have 2 pullets and a cockeral?
The first 2 pictures are of Splotch - I suspect cockeral as the comb is a lot more pink than the other two, however it is small still.
The other two pictures are what I believe to be...
Hiya all!
Can someone help me figure out what is going on with our 19 week old Buff Orpington Buttercup - she seems to extend her neck and twitch?
She is eating, drinking and otherwise fine, this has only just started today.
All of our other hens in the flock seem fine also!
Could this be an...
Yes! Me too!
It doesn't really show any other obvious cockeral appearances though! Millie (the first 3 pics) is the one with the brightest comb, but none of them are large, nor do they have any wattles - just this one & only on one side 😅
Hey all!
Can I get some help with our Speckled Sussex chickens.
Millie (first 3 pictures) Chippy (2nd 3 pictures) & Florence (4th 3 pictures) are 10 weeks old, and Rudie (3rd 2 pictures) is 9 weeks.
Chippy has one wattle that has developed but not on the otherside.
My heart is telling me...
Hahaha the other two are so docile and love a scratch under the chin, the one with the stink eye (splotch) is definitely more fiery! 😵💫😅
Shows in this photo very well haha
Thank you for you response!
Can I get your opinion on some Buff orpingtons? (I see you love them too!)
Would you say the left & right buff are pullets and the middle a cockeral?
The separate pictures are of the same chicken in question, Splotch. 🧐
I have been told they're quite a difficult breed to sex. The 4 speckled chicks from that same hatch are very similar in comb sizing but the tail feathers are different - Millie is the only one like this.
We'll see!
Hi all!
This is Millie, an 8.5 week old Speckled Sussex, he/she is our most docile and well mannered chicken.
The body stature to me seems very Hen like, but I could be very wrong!
We unfortunately are not able to keep Roosters where we are, so I'm praying this little one is a Pullet/Hen! ❤️
