Thank you so Very much for the links. I'm playing with the second one right now and it's so eye-opening. What a wonderful source to make sure I get chicks that will thrive here.

I have a cousin in Jacksonville who may be able to supply me with some chicks later this summer. He free ranges, so I'm not sure if keeping them more confined would stress them.

Thank you. This seems to be an excellent group to learn from.

Thank you! I don't think I've ever heard of those, so I'll check them out. Have you had better success with one hatchery over another? And, like seeds, should we try to find hatcheries closer to FL than, say, the Midwest?

Oh, thank you so much. I have learned that I can't learn gardening from folks in other climates, so it's wonderful that there's a place to learn from other Floridians. We're a different breed!

Thank you so much! This is good info, especially about the autosexing breeds. I didn't know there was such a thing and am relieved to find that out.

I'm in the Tampa Bay area and want to start keeping chickens. I've been gathering information from multiple homesteaders, but thought belonging to a designated community would help me keep up with the legal issues, health issues, etc. I really want a mix of egg colors (yes, I'm one of those)...
