Hi, all! I have a couple of questions. Are muscovy mom's usually bad/indifferent moms? Two of my females have hatched nests; but they'll leave the babies behind, and as a result we lost those first two nests. One of my girls was brown and white. Her brown color really bleached out while she sat...
Thank you! I'd ordered a couple of goslings from them last year, and they were great. Out of an order of 16 chicks with this order, only 9 survived. The ones that are left are doing great.
She's definitely sitting the nest since last Friday. Our weather right now is so crazy. It had been very pleasant but we dropped into the 30's these last couple of nights. We're bringing her food and water right now. Also, she chose a compost bin to nest in. I'm worried about moving her and the...
I wouldn't mind the ducklings. She's laid an egg and checked her nest daily. Today, she's sitting in it and not moving from it, so I'm guessing she's done laying. (At least that's how our geese acted, so that's what I'm going on.) I was just wondering if this was normal for them, because I had...
We are in southern California. It's finally starting to get cooler. I've seen the drake mating with the one duck we know IS laying the eggs. I don't know if I should let her keep the eggs, or if I should take them from the nest.
Thank you, everybody! We have Rhode Island reds, barred rocks, and Easter Eggers. We added some guinea keets this summer, and I got the mystery minis from mcmurray. We have 3 silkies for sure, and now we have the fun of identifying the rest. :-)
I've been browsing this site for a couple of months, but just now signed up. I love all the help and info I've found here. We have chickens and Muscovy ducks right now, and in the past I've raised geese as well.
I have two female Muscovy that have just started laying eggs. I thought they were seasonal layers like geese? We also have a drake, so would these eggs be fertile? This is our first time raising ducks. Any help is appreciated!
