What is up with this weird egg?

I have to look on the bag, we live in Italy so they call it "chicken feed" and "egg production feed" we mix the two bags in our feeders. Scraps aren't much, they are essentially whatever part of veggies I cut away when preparing to cook. Whatever the chickies don't eat (the harder stuff like the...

What is up with this weird egg?

We use chicken feed mixed with egg feed and then they get veggie cuttings/scraps, sometimes dried bread crumbs, and they have very large space to wander and dig. The sun is out here, do they get vitamin D from the sun like we do? If it were a vitamin deficiency wouldn't they all suffer from it...

What is up with this weird egg?

Thanks for the feedback! I would be surprised if it was for some health related issue;she is happy, perky and active, she digs and eats and drinks and poops. We just hatched 3 of her eggs and she is laying normal eggs-1 a day which is great for the season. I'll keep an eye out just to be safe...

What is up with this weird egg?

We found this weirdly shaped, textured egg this morning. Yesterday we had really strong winds, could that affect the egg this way? Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks, Meyer

    March Hatch-A-Long

Thank you! I moved the food and water out of the heat circle, and she is sleeping under the lamp now. Before you replied we gave her a few drops of water with a syringe, but won't do that again. Last time we had chicks they had a mom so we didn't worry about any of this! I am very much...

    March Hatch-A-Long

Here she is falling asleep under the lamp on the food with her head falling into the water so her beak is getting wet. I don't think she can get back under the titan plastic brooder thingy because she slips. I'm thinking of leaving her under the lamp on the food so she can get to the water and...

    March Hatch-A-Long

How soon from hatching should the chick eat/drink? As soon as she (wishful thinking) was dry we put her in the brooder. We have a titan brooder thingy and a heat lamp 150 watts, she has food and water but so far hasn't eaten or drunk anything that we've seen. We've put her beak in the water and...

    March Hatch-A-Long

I just looked at the wood shavings we got for the chicks bedding and it's literally sawdust! Will they eat it and die? Could we use itas a base and put something else on top? Also should we put a hen in there and hope she adopts them? None of our hens are broody and the chicks are...

    March Hatch-A-Long

I'm sorry to hear about the one that got burnt! The little house is 1 meter long by 700 cm wide. We originally made it to separate the breeds while de-fertilizing (definitely not the right term) our hens from other roos in the flock. Now we have introduced the right roos in two of them and this...

    March Hatch-A-Long

We ordered the titan brooder today, we were hoping to use it as soon as they hatch and dry in this house that my husband built (maybe put a box in it to keep them together because it iskind of big. We got some sawdust for the flooring. Would this work or will we find ouselves with squished...

    March Hatch-A-Long

I just found this thread, we have 33 eggs in, staggered, 17 should hatch Tuesday the 12th, the rest the 18th. This is our first incubator hatch, the fhe last time we had chicks we had a broody hen who we brought in the house with the chicks and she took care of them. With these little guys we...

Eggs put into the incubator on different days

We did mark the younger ones, and i candled the day 9 eggs, only one was clear so we are pretty excited. Thanks for the advice on protecting the younger eggs during hatching, we will figure out how to divide the incubator this weekend !

Eggs put into the incubator on different days

Thanks! This is reassuring. Do we needto candle all of the eggs that are past their 7th day? How long is it safe to keep the incubator open, or how many times can we consecutively open to take an egg to candle?

Eggs put into the incubator on different days

This is our first time trying with an incubator. We collected eggs for about 5 days and had 17,but only 5 or 6 were of the breed my husband wanted. I convinced him to be ok with that for a first experience, but about 4 or so days later he decided to put in the new eggs from those hens after...
