I have 17 chickens and all has been well. They all look healthy and the eggs have all looked great, until the last week or so. Now, every day I have 1 egg that is a lot smaller than the others, speckled, and has no yolk. What in the world could be happening here?
Just wanted to update this to say that one of our chickens is laying what I'd consider a normal size eggs. I suspect they'll all follow soon enough.
Some still aren't laying at all though. 17 chickens and getting 8-9 eggs a day.
I didn't want to start a new thread for this, so hopefully someone will read this too, but can y'all confirm the breed of our rooster too? He's not good at pictures so this is the best I have for now.
I look all over the place when I'm out there to make sure they're not laying somewhere else. Out of curiosity, though, if they do start laying somewhere other than their boxes, can that be fixed?
Wow, thanks for the quick reply! I had a feeling that was the cause but I didn't expect them to stay small for this long. I figured they'd get bigger with every few eggs they lay.
Anyways, good to know there's not something wrong. Thanks again!
My parents have some chickens that started laying eggs about 3 weeks ago. All the eggs are very small, though. They're like half the size we expected them to be. I should also mention that out of 17 chickens, only 6 of them are laying.
These chickens free range all day and have access to laying...
