I don’t mind making adjustments and I’m sure at some point we’ll be adding a run, on top of free ranging. That’s a double tarp on top so it would have to get through 2 tarps, chicken wire and fit through the cattle panel. Which I’m sure if something is motivated enough it’ll do it. What’s HC btw?
Say hypothetically I didn't add a run and kept the birds in this full time, would 5 be fine? 8'x8'. We are gonna be free ranging often but I always like to plan for the worst or at least for possible situations that might come up.
It’s a 1x8 board, I can easily add cleats all the way across. The ground to the bottom of the door is just over a foot. The door itself is 12 3/4” wife but I can’t remember the height. I think close to the same. I’m only having 5 chickens so if they can’t deal with not having a 2 way traffic...
Really good points guys! For me personally I don’t care about working in the poop because if I step in the coop at all I’m gonna already be fine with the fact that I’m streppinb in poop haha. Also, since I’m doing the deep litter method and I’ll be in twice a week or so to break up the poop and...
They can’t get on the bar that the feeders are hanging from its really close to the cattle wire so there’s no headroom for them. If they do get on it they should realize how uncomfortable it is and get off. But if not I can always adjust it. Also the perch is a good 18” to 2ft away from it. This...
I could build an open hoop run to attach it too in the future. I was considering cutting a few screened windows into the back portion to let more light in.
I’m not as concerned with the warmth as I am it being too dark. This spot doesn’t see much direct sun exposure, my barn behind it blocks the sun all day. It’s only a couple hours where the sun is hitting the tarp. Idk how darkness in the coop/run affects the hens. They will be let out for a...
